Compulsory summer term in university during June and July

Featured Replies

This my first time working for a university in Bangkok and my contract is from August 2016 until 31st July 2017. The HR told me that the second term is finished in May. Then, June and July are the summer term, which is compulsory for all the teacher in university and after the summer term start the first term right away in August, no holiday or break at all!!!

I only have experience teaching in goverment schools before where teachers used to finish teaching in March and after 3 or 4 weeks of holiday in April go back to work in May, so I always used this long break to visit my family Spain.

I wonder if other university teachers must do this summer teaching as well or it's only my university. I have been here for 3 years and I always had 3 or 4 weeks holidya per year to spend time with my family and then come back to the same school, but I worry my university won't allow it. Thanks.

They have told you. At least now you have time to find another school or University. There is no shame in cutting your "promise" short with such low wages and corruption. I'd suggest you just finish May in good faith and decline to teach the "summer", return to Spain and enjoy the topless beaches.
