BANGKOK, 25 October 2016 (NNT) - The Austrian Ambassador to Thailand has given an exclusive interview with NBT World, in which he stated that His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej was a father figure for Thailand, devoting himself to the sustainable development of Thailand.

During his tenure as the Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Thailand, His Excellency Enno Drofenik saw the various works of the late King and praised him as the longest reigning monarch whose tireless efforts were devoted to the betterment of his beloved country, regardless of his own interests. He deemed His Majesty's Sufficiency Economy Philosophy an important legacy that places the people's wellbeing at the center of development. The ambassador cited the late King's Lifetime Achievement Award on Human Development presented to him by the United Nations Development Program in 2006.

Mr. Drofenik said he admired the late King for his numerous outstanding talents, including his musical skill. His Majesty had paid a royal visit to Austria for one week in late September 1964, during which he visited St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Treasury and the SOS Children Village in Vienna. During his royal visit, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performed his famous pieces, including "Falling Rain." His Majesty played the clarinet with the famous Austrian pianist Friedlich Gluda, together with Vienna Symphony Orchestra. He was also introduced as the youngest Honorary Asian member of Austrian Faculty of Music, in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a composer and musician.

Mr. Drofenik claimed the people of Austria still remember the late King and were impressed by his royal visit. On behalf of the people of Austria, the ambassador conveyed his most sincere condolences for the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej to the royal family, government and the people of Thailand.
