just curious, how is the Hooters at the Nana doing????  i used to sit at the bar before they built the Hooters, sat there just about everyday for a bit and enjoyed watching the ladies and having a few beers. I was at the Hooters when it first opened, but just didnt care for the enclosed in feeling. Really liked the older bar. Seems to me they did a lot of business with the bar and also with the restuarant that was just inside. Now, with the restaurant on 3rd floor and nasty looking...would never eat there at all.

The bars opposite (e.g. Hillary 4) always seemed busier and livelier on the few occasions I've been down there. Even with the dull as dishwater atmosphere in the bars at the moment they are still way busier. I'm not quite sure that Hooters is a style that Thailand has copied very successfully. It's the same in Phuket. Crap, dead and overpriced for, well, nothing really.

Mind you, I've suspended operations on the bar scene front for now. I don't really dig the 'enjoy yourself solemnly' atmos which I guess just amplifies the dreariness of places like Hooters at the moment. Beer down the library anyone? Err - nah.

Yes agree with this statement. Importing a very good business model from overseas, doesn't work and sometimes just does not suit the Thai market. Hooters I suggest is one very good example. Way overpriced drinks. Same with  the food. I wonder how long it will stay open because they must be losing as a couple of weeks ago there were far less servers (girls) in the place then at the start and on their supposedly starting salaries, it must be like putting money on a fire.

I would like to have seen the business plan and the short, medium and long term goals and forecast. I would think the short term forecast is in the drain. Obviously the marketing mix was not properly thought out, if it is to be a viable business.

True

Before Hooters, the place was packed 18 hours a day.
A successful, cheaply run bar, with many regulars who enjoyed the relaxed, dive atmosphere.

After they spent, gazillions of Bhat, ripping the place apart - it is rarely busy.

I found it all rather depressing and stressful. Not exactly a happy Thai experience, seemed to me to collect newby tourists.
The old timers have moved on to pastures new.

I imagine its losing money and will eventually close.

Someone didn't do their market research!

I don't mind the drink prices to sit and watch people go by at this Hooter's.  The food is way over priced.  The biggest problem with the Hooter's here is the unfriendly staff I think.  The girls are mostly model quality and they know it.  Very non engaging and stuck up.  So, how is it doing?  Who knows unless you have access to their financials.  In the back it seems mostly to be falang business men in groups probably staying at the Marriott.  As far as Hillary's bar: probably a better time but just the opposite as Hooter's as the bar girls will bother the heck out of you.

Hooters works in the USA because the guys can't walk 100 more meters and see a ping pong show.  And the waitresses at Denny's and Olive Garden don't call them "hansum man".

Edit: It's like soft core porn in the internet age.

I used sit in Golden bar laughing at the what punters are paying in Hillary 4 for drinks. Now I sit in Hillary 4 laughing at the Hooters crowd, the irony of it. I do miss the Golden bar.

Hooters doesnt get a great crowd but it is not empty as I thought it would be.

I think you have nailed it there.

I've been in the Soi 15 Hooters and tried the food there too....just junk and I wouldn't repeat the misery.

The contrived nature of the bar doesn't lend itself to the fun and spontaneity that Golden Bar had....its a soulless place and when I have walked past the Soi 4 venue it has not been full of happy punters.....most gazing across the road in lust....

In most markets in the world, labor is a business's biggest expense but not so in Thailand.  Restaurants like Hooters here can get buy with less customers and still have black under the bottom line.

One thing Hooters did get right is those orange shorts the girls wear....they fit just about as perfectly as a pair of shorts could fit.
