OK.........now I understand.

My ME O - A retirement visa will give me multilply entry for one year from date of issue.

If I have permission to stay after expiration date of origingal visa, then I have to buy re-entry permit.

Thanks.

One further question, does anyone know how long the health certificate is valid when applying for a ME O - A visa.

One of the people at the Thai Consulte told me one month, but other people have told me 3 months and 6 months.

It doesn't give this information on the website of the Thail Consulate.

In other words, if I obtain a health certificate notorized on April 1 2017, do I have to apply for new ME O - A visa before May 1, 2017 ( 1 month), July 1, 2017 ( 3 months) or Oct. 1, 2017 ( 6 months)?

If the consulate website does not state the length if is valid for you would have to ask them to confirm what they want.  By email would be best so you would have it in writing.

I think many locations accept them that are up to 3 months old. For example this from the embassy in Washington DC's website.

I am sorry to go over this again, but it is inportant.

There is no such  ananimal as a reiement visa, or a marriage visa, or for that mtter as a employment visa to be obtained in Thailand.

These are extensions of the Non O visa you obtained outside of Thailand.

You can retire in Thailand on a one year EXTENSION of a Non O visa obtained outside of Thailand.

This is not a visa you get however in Thailand, it is an extension of another visa you obtain because you meet the financial requirements and other requirements to qualify for a one year extension by reason of retirement in Thailand.

Similarly you do not get a marriage visa, you qualify because you meet the requirements for a one year stay in Thailand based on marriage to a Thai citizen.

In the same way if you are employed by a Thai company you can meet the requirements for an extension of stay in Thailand becuse of your employment in Thailnd by a Thai company.

So they are not visas, they are extensions obtained in Thailand which have certain requirements you must meet to obtain one.

This is not just a semantics difference these extensions have their own method of being handed and doing it wrong can hurt you when you have such an extension.

People are still getting in trouble by not knowing the difference between a visa and an extension by reason of marriage.

And that can cause problems for them.

If that was not the case, I would never bother oother people with the differnce in terminology.

Otherwise, i would never care what they were called.
