PHUKET: Emergency staff have been ordered to remain alert after continuous rain battered the island last night, lasting well into the morning and flooding large areas in Patong and Phuket Town, among others.

“I have ordered local administrative officials to stand by for any emergencies and also be on the lookout for residents who might need help,” Governor Chokchai Dejamorthan told the Phuket Gazette.

Officials from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and other rescue personnel helped drain out rainwater from areas that were affected by flash floods that followed last night’s rains.

“I request the public to be prepared and remain on high alert as well,” Gov Chokchai added. “Emergency staff is present to help out in any adverse situation that might occur due to prevailing storms.”

Vice Governor Teera Anantaseriwidhya, Phuket City Mayor Somjai Suwansupana and DDPM Phuket chief Udomporn Karn inspected the flooding at Saensuk Canal in Phuket City this morning.

By some freak of nature totally unexpected event we have had rainy season again.

Good thing my memory is bad, or I would be a bit tired from hearing about this flooding problem AGAIN......

And I'll bet it will bet the same story next year.

Any takers??

In my area no flooding at all this year, last year quite a few times.

And despite the rain this year, in my belief more than last year, I recall less news about floodings in other areas as well, including Patong and Phuket Town.

Can't argue with your observations, rain here is so local.

You set of in sun and 1000 m down the road you are soaked if you are on a bike.

Last year I struggled a bit (no car) this year I have been on the beach in my hammock a couple of times both Sep and Oct.

Only 2 weeks ago I felt it was really bad.

Today again sunny most of the day.

I have been here some years when it was flooding's and bad landslides even in March..

But I might be wrong I love to have reliable statistics over downpour.

Maybe I'll see you at the Indian ship tomorrow if it's not to much rain
