BANGKOK, 29 October 2016 (NNT) – The New Zealand Ambassador to Thailand and his family today distributed 5,000 New Zealand apples to the public coming to mourn the passing of His Majesty the late King.

Anti-Human Trafficking Division Commander Kornchai Khlaikhleung welcomed Mr. Ben King, the New Zealand Ambassador to Thailand, who came to distribute 5,000 New Zealand apples to people who are mourning the passing of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The welcome took place at the Central Investigation Bureau's Joint Administration Center, Ratchaworadit pier, Navy Club.

The Commander of the Anti-Human Trafficking Division said that the New Zealand Ambassador to Thailand coordinated with the Central Investigation Bureau to express loyalty to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej as he realized that all Thai people love His Majesty very much and the ambassador wished to take part in providing moral support to the Thai people by distributing New Zealand apples.

New Zealand Society Thailand members also distributed food and drinks to mourners at the Central Investigation Bureau Joint Administration Center, Ratchaworadit pier, Navy Club.

A Thai official states a NZ diplomat expressed ' loyalty ' to the late King but shouldn't that be respect or something similar ?

Doesn't seem quite right someone would declare loyalty to the head of another state even in such emotional times.

If N.Z. really wanted to show respect then the P.M. who's been in India along with his 80 " Support " team of hangers on,and may still be there, would have taken our Air Force aircraft requesting it make a stop in Bangkok on it's return to N.Z. enabling the leader to do what he should, but then,Thailand is not China , where his master's appear to be. Shame on him!

They were probably those cool store apples that they pass off as 'fresh' but are soft, pithy and taste like cardboard. Oh for a crisp Central Otago  Braeburn or a Royal Gala.

Many are living as a family in cars , illegally converted garages and on the streets in N.Z. and John Key refuses to acknowledge these hard done by folks, just tells them to go to WINZ. Thailand may have difficult immigration and property laws, but to be frank,I think they're more sensible than most of ours. We sell our land to anyone with enough funds, and it's taken our property prices to the world's highest . Younger Kiwis can no longer afford to buy in areas where work is . Our immigration is a total mess, and we allow parent reunification for those "Studying " and after never having worked in N.Z. but stayed for 10 years , they qualify for our full pension , whereby a Kiwi would not, only a pro rata %.

Perhaps the Thai official couldn't find a right word/phrase...

There are 80.000 mourners every day but only 10.000 are allowed to enter the Palace. So 5000 apples ain't much..maybe he could also have a look at all the unripe avocado's the kiwi's are sending to Thailand? They are picked far too early.

I'm sure a Thai official would say loyalty especially in public and perhaps would think everybody else would too.

There could be a translation error and of course Thais are notorious for speaking on behalf of others and it's always positive.

i doubt very much the Ambassador actually said loyalty as he would be in big trouble at home if he did since he would have been pledging such to a foreign head of state and that's not on.
