Officers step up efforts to prevent missing people at Sanam Luang

BANGKOK, 31 October 2016 (NNT) - A security joint operations command for the areas surrounding the Grand Palace has increased security after it found that there were criminals among mourners. Measures have been imposed to prevent missing people.

The security joint operations command’s meeting on Sunday was chaired by Maj.Gen.Thammanun Withi. The meeting concluded that there were 29,000 people entering the Grand Palace to pay homage to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej in front of the Royal Urn on Saturday. More than 17,000 people went inside the Grand Palace Sunday morning.

However, the meeting acknowledged that there were criminals in the areas surrounding the Grand Palace. The security operations command will therefore work with the police to step up security and warn the public of pickpocketing. They will also cooperate to prevent missing people, especially children and senior people, following reports of a lot of missing people on Saturday.

Police officers, officers from the Ministry of Interior as well as volunteers are working together in ensuring security at Sanam Luang. They search bags of everyone entering the Sanam Luang area and will immediately seize any weapon they find in the bags.
