Maize farmers plan court action to suspend imports of wheat

maize comes from corn

but thai people want to stop wheat?

The reason  they want to stop the wheat imports ,so they say ,that it is  lowering the price of  Thai  maize ,found a place today that  is paying 3.80 baht/kg ,that price barely  covers production  costs, this  buyer  sends all it corn  12 km up the road to a local  Betagro feed mill .

The op said  that  CP, Betagro, and Laemthong  ,are the biggest  buyers of wheat ,these 3 companies are also  the 3  biggest manufacture of  animal  feed  in Thailand  ,so they are not  going to change there   ways  in a hurry  ,between them they have  a lot of clout  in the animal feed markets.

I think this is going to be a big problem  for a long time ,I wonder how  much is coming from the uk  since the GBP has gone pear shape.

United flour mill  has been buying imported wheat  for a lot of years ,I use there  flour in my bread maker ,never a problem ,wish they would produce a brown  flour

Can not see why  you can not make corn bread   Thai corn flour should work mixed with some  ordinary flour ,plus some  baking soda  (Pong- Foo) , in Thai.

I'm not even talking about brand names , but generic cornflakes like they sell in Aldi like supermarkets . Big C has some unknown brands too , but still ridiculously expensive , probably imported too ? It would be very possible  setting up a factory in Thailand to make cornflakes & tortilla chips . Potato chips again are too expensive ,partly because potato's are expensive here , but cheap corn tortilla chips could be an alternative.

Dorito's are also great snacks made from corn. And tortilla's go well with any dippingsauce which the Thai always need.

But they can't invent/produce anything here...look at the price of plain yoghurt (which is super easy to make from milk). It costs almost double the price of milk which is ridiculous.

From rubber they could make soft mattresses which are very hard to find in Thailand. Or good tires but again they can't make it and they won't let foreigners do it under normal conditions.

From sugarcane leaves they planned to make disposable cups and plates, exactly what the world needs but i haven't heard about it again.

It's easyier to give the farmers money so they stop crying. So that's what they'll do.

Beer for 30 baht? I think of free headache sir, my beer costs 140 baht a bottle in Thailand...if they only learned to produce good beer i would start drinking it again.

Also i don't understand who eats that bread from the 711 or supermarkets. For me that ain't bread, it's all air.

Many Thai have digestion issues, (can't shit well) from eating too much white rice. They should grow something with more fibre like wheat (woo-wee).

But ANY article about the farmers ends-up the same way: lack of education, stupidity, doing what they always do and the government is to blame for everything. They have much bare land in Thailand, plenty of sun, enough water, cheap labour but still can't compete on the worldmarkets.

Beer at 7/11 is 30 baht.
