RAYONG: -- Thieves walked away with three million baht in cash stolen from an ATM machine in Pluak Daeng district of Rayong province early Monday morning, using a steel-cutting torch to break open the machine.

Police believe that 3-4 thieves were involved in the daring theft which took place in front of a shop in CK Mini Mart market in Tambon Pluak Daeng.

Police who inspected the scene of the theft found the wire of an alarm system cut off and the surveillance camera switched to the wall, hence could not monitor while the thieves were in the act of cutting open the ATM with the torch.

I truly think you need appreciate thieves who do their research. Then at least you recognise worth when you see it.

I think the thieves got lucky, if a door or any wire is tamper with, an alarm automatically goes off at a computer system at the central monitoring station where a police is to be dispatched immediately.  Either the alarm system was faulty, the guy monitoring the central system was sleeping, or the police couldn't be reached.

I talk to an ATM tech once when he was working on an ATM machine, he says if he can't fix / change parts within X minutes. He has to close the ATM and report back, before he can continue working on it. This was one of the fraud prevention techniques employed by the banks.

After many pathetic failed attempts I'm happy to see someone finally succeeded. Congratulations are in order.

If at first you don't succeed, why not.

Back in my engineering days the intensity of an oxy acetylene set could be enough to chop through some really tough alloy steel.   Even in Thailand a padlock would be scrap metal in seconds!

The thieves must have done some research,to know where to

cut,or they could have ended up with 3 million,in burnt notes

now they have done that job successfully, expect more in the

coming weeks.

Guess the alarmsystem was designed by a Thai engineer.

Real alarmsystems go off if the wires are cut but in Thailand even connecting a lightbulb to an electric barrier is far too complicated for them. What, even using indicatorlights in a vehicle is too  complicated.

no security sensors or anything?

well, if it worked once and that crew has connections, thailand will learn a new trade soon  ATM cutting

and that looks like a stepladder in the photo??  In any case the thieves were clearly world class. They thought of everything.
