BANGKOK: -- ALLEGATIONS THAT Second Army Region deputy chief Maj-General Sonthaya Sricharoen abused his authority as 6th Infantry Division chief by deploying soldiers on private work projects should be investigated by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), Charoonsak Chantharamai, president of the Northeastern Anti-Corruption Organisation, said yesterday.

Sonthaya has been accused of using the division’s soldiers, state equipment and oil budget to renovate the Thung Sri Muang and Huai Muang public parks in Ubon Ratchathani on behalf of a private construction company, according to the organisation’s petition to the NACC.

Using the resources for a private-sector project violated laws concerning the submission of bids to government agencies, Charoonsak said.

Waste of time really as nothing will happen.....but kudos to them for reporting!

They were working on public parks so the army was really only assisting in a civic project to help the people as is their role, sometimes.

If any money changed hands it will have been for a military or some other charity and if it's found in the Maj. Gen's personal account it will be because he was only taking care of it, after all there is precedent.

In short, No Case To Answer and maybe anger from the PM towards those who are always complaining about people who are only trying to do good.   :whistling:

Army spokesman Colonel Winthai Suwaree said, "...the renovation of Thung Sri Muang was not done for commercial gain. It was one of the places that soldiers went to help clean up, cut branches and prevent destructive gatherings..." !!!

Sound familiar ???

The allegation that military personnel had negotiated for the Nakhon Ubon Ratchathani Municipality Council to spend ฿273 million on public-park renovation and re-landscaping is immaterial. But, a cynic would suggest that you could really "clean up", cut a lot of branches, and prevent quite a few destructive gatherings for that kind of money (especially with the manpower and machinery that the 6th Infantry Division should be able to mobilize).

273 million baht , a lot of money in Thailand,

The accused has a right of reply.

bearing in mind, accusing some one of this stature in the current

climate would not be taken lightly.

love ya work mate.

Constrution companies,  Public money in the millions,  Military involvment,  it just keeps happening and either the military haven't learnd to go through the correct proceddures and public announcments before the job is started OR they haven't learnd that the people are sick of this crap and will stand up and say somthing.

But no matter the millitary will do as they have done in the past when these little chest nuts crops up.

Everything is fine, it's all in order no corruption here people. and then if the plebs are still to noisy, and internal investigation that has it's findings before the investigation has started...

When will the junta huggers finally see these plonkers for what they are?  Every month it's a new corruption allergation.

....."....and the beat goes on..."...."and the beat goes on".......

Your right you have to play the social media card to get anywhere. Bypass the government and after they get egg on their face they will move. Moving is one thing keeping the ball rolling is another. I am sure if you ask any government official here what the phrase "The Buck Stops Here" means you will get a quizzical look.

They'd be looking for the brown paper envelope that encloses the buck(s), surely?
