Of course I can check forecast.. but how bad is the rainy season? Just few minutes rain a day, or pouring?

I'm deciding between Ko Lanta and Railay vs Samui and Ko Tao at the end of this month.

Thanks!

Well it's raining at this very moment, and has been for the last hour. Up until the last week in October it had been fairly dry, and Samui is / was in dire need of some rain to fill the reservoirs. End of October and beginning of November has at last had a few downpours. Normally starts to brighten up again in mid December, but who knows?

Besides googling for weather forecasts, you might also want to try "climate Samui" for a wider overview.

Those forecasts are rarely correct! ^

Be prepared it can be nice for a while, then pour down for a while!  No signs of flooding on roads between Bophut and Lipa Noi today!

We are behind on rain this year, lots more by now last year..

Some tourists come prepared

Ko Samui weather...png

I remember a friend who had booked to come to Samui for the first time. He said, "I have been checking the Samui weather forecast for the last month or so on my iPhone. Almost everyday it shows 31 degrees with a chance of thunderstorms."

Its pissing it down almost every day now for a week and a half. Its drizzling as I write this, but the temperature is great! But that is the story in the South of Thailand between mid Oct and late December. The weather can be bad for days on end. If you want better weather, go to Chiang Mai or, Koh Chang. You choose.............

November-December is the heavy rainy-season at Samui and her her sisters (Phangan and Tao), at the other side of the mainland with Phuket and Koh Lanta, it's normally much less rain this time of the year.

And the last days, it has been changing between long time wished for Samui-rain for whole days, and days with some sunshine – just as very normal, this time of the year – and the monsoon storm is also expected during that period, can last for a week or more...

Thanks guys... I'm aware of the climate - I spent 3 months at Samui/Phangan/Tao about two years ago.

But as said here, the average climate and forecast are often way different than the reality of now.

I'm just deciding between Ko Lanta/Railay and Samui ... I prefer to travel in shoulder season, and Krabi is high season in November. But wanna have a good time, so not sure if it's worth to risk Samui

Just for your information..

Not sure what you  when you say "have a good time", but something to bear in mind, due to recent events, Thailand is in a period of mourning, so things are a bit subdued at the moment. Things might start slowly returning to normal around 14th November.

Of course, if you are just looking to chill and relax, quieter is better.

I stay in Bangkok, so well aware of the forced "mourning" in the standard hypocrite Thai way :) (and as mentioned it will be end of the month)

By good time I mean have open options - ie not sit in the hotel while the rain is pouring

Did Koh Lipe and Koh Lanta last week.. both DEAD with very few tourists and lots of places still shut for low season.  We also had lots and lots of rain so we finally threw in the towel and came home to Pattaya.. :)
