When you say a non O visa for being 50 or over, just to clarify, do you mean 50 or over with proof of funds? It has been suggested above that proof of funds means in this case just a single bank statement showing B800k funds deposited in any country. My friend is considering this option for his next entry and can see a logistical prob in getting an original bank statement from Dubai dated very close to the day of the application. I have read that some embassies / consulates ask for a same day ATM mini statement in addition to recent original statement but he is not sure he can get ATM printout from his Dubai bank in Penang. Any thoughts on this?

Some locations that will issue a single entry non-o visa for being 50 or over do not ask for financial proof. Just the passport to prove a person is 50 or over is needed.

In Penang they will not ask for a ATM slip. Just a bank statement is enough but Penang has been reported as asking for proof a person is retired to issue the visa. Some people have gotten a income letter from their embassy or consulate to meed that requirement.

Sorry for delayed response. Please correct me if I am wrong but an income letter can prove that you receive a pension and are therefore 'retired', but just wondering how an income letter can be used to prove that a 50-65 year old, not in receipt of pension, prove that he is 'retired'? The absence of any income from employment isn't proof because couldn't the applicant just choose not to declare it to the embassy?

Unless there is a clear way to prove retirement for a 50-65 year old, it seems that Penang might not be such a straightforward option for my friend. You suggest that there are some locations that will issue a non O for being over 50 without either financial proof or proof of retirement - I would be really grateful if you would clarify which locations because these sound like a safer option for him.

The income letter from the embassy seems to enough since it is done by an embassy. If the income was 65k baht or more they would issue the visa with only it.

There are no nearby location that will issue a non-o for being 50 or over visa without financial proof. The locations where it could be done would likely be a honorary consulate in a persons home country or a embassy that would issue one for those that are not citizens of the country where they are located.
