An officer takes notes Wednesday morning at the spot where Don Daengchantip, 34, was allegedly beaten to death in Bangkok.

BANGKOK — Police on Friday said an investigation was being launched into a group of policemen who during the course of a raid on a gambling den were seen kicking a suspect senseless who later died of his injuries.

Don Daengchantip, 34, was cornered and beaten by officers from Sutthisan Police Station as he attempted to flee a suspected gambling den in Bangkok’s Samsen Nok district. A police spokesman said it would take up to 30 days to establish why Don died and who was responsible.

Very hard to see. I hope whoever took the video is in a safe place, they might find themselves charged with the computer crimes act or something like that, because clearly this man died of a heart attack  all by himself.

Met spokesman Kritsana Patanacharoen also commented that in his opinion there was no excessive force used in the arrest though he couldn't say how the bruising had occurred either.

an admission forced was used, just not excessive...hmmm, roll the video tape

Yes clearly heart attack brought on resisting arrest and the violent struggle he instigated with the police .

The main point is excessive use of force ! If in fact he died from that excessive force, they should die also.

The only way to stop excessive assaults resulting in death, is like punishment, regardless of position, wealth or sneaking into a Temple to escape proper punishment.

If you kill someone in the process of a crime, you should die, the World has too many people with no respect for another's life !!

"Police on Friday said an investigation was being launched into a group of policemen who during the course of a raid on a gambling den were seen kicking a suspect senseless who later died of his injuries."

However, they have already been cleared of any guilt by the chief of the Bangkok Police, who stated emphatically that the injuries sustained by the victim were not enough to cause his death.

When it comes to justice for police in Thailand (and many other countries throughout the world), putting the horse before the cart is the standard M.O.

Obviously, badges, no matter in which country they are worn, are more powerful than amulets in protecting guilty police from true justice.

NEWSFLASH!

In order to preserve their untarnished reputation, the RTP have announced that death due to police brutality shall simply be referred to as death by natural causes.

Don’s family can file a complaint against police if they believe he was a victim of excessive force, police spokesman Kritsana said.

... and then we will explain to you what "excessive force" really is.

Great platform for an ' investigation ' to be launched from with the Bkk police chief all but writing the situation wrong.

Let's hope the medical community tell it like it is either way and if something is seriously wrong they don't hide behind a wishy washy report rather than directly implicate the BIB involved.

Let's not forget last year Prawit said the police had the right to protect their ' good name and reputation ' ( :cheesy: ) and he supported their right to sue anyone who defamed them,

Defamation is of course in the eye of the beholder and very flexible in the Thai ' justice ' system.

The whole country needs cctv everywhere so the truth can come out more often

i agree however i doubt these cops will get punished even with CCTV footage as evidence. if the cops kicked this guy to death then thats a minimum 10 years for manslaughter. punishment should be doubled as cops have a duty of care to protect the general public not kill them.

30 days to let this go out of public view. did those cops kids ever get punished for killing the crippled street vendor?

Unfortunately the main point in this will be the same as the scales of justice, and if it weren't for one of these damned smartphones (that should have been outlawed the fist time somebody used one for an upskirt video), routine defence tactics would have worked.  Now they'll have to get a restraining order against the use of a video unlawfully used to commit a cybercrime intended for the sole purpose of defaming a police chief.

Man did not die from a Police beating he died from a Police Kicking. TG for video, not too clear so it may be hard to ID the actual culprits. Better just charge them all.

Thats what they do to their own...

ALWAYS remember it could be you theres another plane load coming in

The Police might be going through a stressfull time

What would be his punishment if he didn't run away?   He was gambling.....my guess is a 500 baht fine?

Indeed "the World has too many people with no respect for another's life" ...

And that includes people like you, who are in favor of capital punishment.

Clearly this violent person attacked the police with his body, the boys were only trying to do there job in the cause of harmony and peace, but this thug used his person with intent to do harm to our intrepid police force. This is obviously a case of premeditated actual bodily harm, which,of course when he realised that there were too many of the wonderful force that protect and serve he decided that suicide was the only way out.

Be much like the DSI cell death and the top cop gun charge in Japan, swept under carpet and smoothed over with brown envelopes or physical mussle as soon as next story takes front page news.

nobody cares, life is worthless and mafia & money is all that counts here . cops here are real bad and if not real bad they inept & lazy.

My personal guess of an explanation would be:

The unfortunate gambling guy, once the police swooped in, tried to hang himself in order to avoid arrest. And then a gang of policemen found him, and being good souls and citizens, attempted to revive him by performing a group/mass CPR all over his body using the newly discovered "feet" technique of cardiac compression.  Don't worry. It will all come out in the autopsy report, to be performed after his body has been hurriedly cremated.
