so have just been told by the admin staff at work that a new rule was introduced that came into effect on the 20th of November that if you leave the country upon your return you have 3 days to renew your work permit.

Even if your work permit is still valid!!!

Can anyone clarify this?

Apparently if i head off to Singapore for a weekend for example upon my return I will need to pay to "renew" my WP even though it is ok until May next yr, <deleted>???

She has the document in Thai that apparently relates to this but as I cannot read thai I am a little unsre as to if this is a "correct" translation or not...........

Can you get the document scanned and then post it here for the crack team of decipherers to see what it says...

If true, that will make an already cumbersome task of having WP's even MORE cumbersome and costly.

You can not leave and return without a re-entry permit and keep your work permit alive. So perhaps this is an improvement and you have 3 days to get it back rather than losing it and having to start from zero? If that is the case it is a big improvement. If not it is something else you now have to take care of each time you return from a trip. Expect Sunbelt will be able to comment further.

By "chop" I assume the poster is talking about your permitted to stay stamp. If you had the re entry permit it should not be a different date than before.

เพื่อให้การปฏิบัติงานตามพระราชบัญญัติการทำงานของคนต่างด้าว พ.ศ.2521 เป็นไปอย่างถูกต้อง สำนักงานจัดหางานจังหวัดภูเก็ต จึงได้กำหนดการปฏิบัติในการพิจารณาเกี่ยวกับการยื่นคำขอต่ออายุใบอนุญาตทำงาน กรณีใบอนุญาตทำงานจะหมดอายุลง ดังนี้

1. การต่ออายุใบอนุญาตทำงานของคนต่างด้าวให้ยื่นคำขอก่อนใบอนุญาตทำงานหมดอายุกรณีที่วันหมดอายุตรงกับวันหยุดราชการไม่เป็นเหตุที่จะนำมาอ้างสิทธิในการต่ออายุใบอณุญาตทำงานได้ กรณียื่นคำขอต่ออายุใบอนุญาตทำงานให้ยื่นก่อนได้ ภายใน 5 วันทำการ

2. กรณีคนต่างด้าวอยู่ระหว่างยื่นขอต่ออายุการอนุญาตให้อยู่ในราชอาณาจักร (VISA) กับสำนักงานตรวจคนเข้าเมือง และใบอนุญาตทำงานจะหมดอายุลง ให้ยื่นคำขอต่อนุญาตไว้ก่อน เมื่อสำนักงานตรวจคนเข้าเมืองได้ประทับตราอนุญาตให้อยู่ในราชอาณาจักรแล้ว ให้นำหนังสือเดินทางไปแสดงพร้อทคำขอต่ออายุใบอนุญาตทำงานให้เจ้าหน้าทีพิจารณาต่ออายุใบอนุญาตทำงาน ภายใน 5 วัน

3. กรณีคนต่างด้าวต้องเดินทางออกนอกราชอาณาจักร ให้ยื่นคำขอต่ออายุใบอนุญาตทำงานไว้ก่อน โดยต้องมีหนังสือรับรองจากคนต่างด้าวรับรองว่าจะเดินทางไปต่างประเทศ พร้อมทั้งระบุระยะเวลาที่จะเดินทาง เมื่อคนต่างด้าวเดินทางกลับเข้ามาต้องนำหนังสือเดินทางพร้อทคำขอต่ออายุใบอนุญาตให้เจ้าหน้าที่พิจารณาต่ออายุใบอนุญาตทำงาน ภายใน 3 วัน นับแต่วันที่เดินทางเข้ามาในราชอาณาจักร

4. กรณีคนต่างด้าวที่ใบอนุญาทำงานหมดอายุ และมิได้ยื่นคำขอ่ต่ออายุใบอนุญาตทำงานไว้ตามข้อ 1 ข้อ 2 และ ข้อ 3 หากคนต่างด้าวประสงค์ทำงานต่อไปจะต้องยื่นคำขอรับใบอนุญาตทำงานกับนายทำเบียนการทำงานของคนต่างด้าวใหม่

5. การยื่นขอต่ออายุใบอนุญาตทำงาน เปลี่ยนแปลงรายการในใบอนุญาตทำงาน ต้องนำหนังสือเดินทางไปแสดงด้วยทุกครั้ง

ทั้งนี้ ตั้งแต่บัดนี้เป็นต้นไป

that is the situation , i have both a non B ( 1 yr multiple ) and a work permit ,

the work permit must be renewed after every trip outside the country as it is tied to your current passport stamp.

just another way to extract a little more freight ...................

Example: You get the Non B somewhere, enter Thailand, have the WP extended to say March 1st (the date of your admitted until stamp). Now you do a trip somewhere, say Jan 15 out, Jan 17 in. If I understand this post right your WP is now invalid (although it says valid until March 1st), but you now have an admitted until April 15 (or so, did not bother to count the 90 days here) stamp in the Passport.

Could you alernatively get a reentry permit, thus being stamped in again for March 1st, and continue with your fitting date on the WP?

In any case, these rules are a disgrace.

this is the date that your wp validity is tied too ,

Let's see ....

This is now hypothetical, but not an unrealistic scenario in my view:

A start-up Company dealing in export. A farang Manager. He gets a Work Permit, and a 1Y Multi B Visa. As the Company does not have an audited annual balance sheet yet, no way for a 1 Y extension.

The Job description for the Manager includes meeting business Partners abroad, so he travels on business maybe as often as twice a week, in and out. At every return his WP is invalid, and needs to be renewed. He could maybe do it himself (stopping at the Office on his way from the Airport) or he will rather use the company's lawyer. This process takes time, not sure how much. Within this time he is effectively working illegal!?

Is there a way out?
