Volunteer projects continue around Sanam Luang

Kitti Cheevasittiyanon

BANGKOK, 6th November 2016 (NNT) - Many volunteer projects are still active around Sanam Luang area as mourners continue traveling to pay their respects to the body of HM the late King Bhumibol.

At the coordinating center of the Volunteers for DAD project, which is located inside Thammasat University, more volunteers have signed up to lend a hand in helping mourners, who may be in need of assistance while visiting the area.

Those who have recently signed up include both students and members of the public.

After completing the sign-up process, they have attended a brief training in the type of work they have chosen, including the sorting of garbage, tending the mobile toilet vans, kitchen work, and at screening points — all of which are needed in the Sanam Luang area.

Despite a surge in the number of volunteer candidates during the weekend, the Volunteers for DAD project said more are still welcome every day, from 8 am to 10 pm.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister Office has been inviting volunteers to help pack the “Por Piang” or “Sufficiency” paddies, which have been given away as a memorabilia to mourners, who have come to pay respects to the late King.

Around 30,000 bags of paddy are packed by government officials and employees daily and the packed paddy is distributed three times a day.

Potential volunteers are asked to join the packing process at Government House daily from 8 am to 5 pm.
