Election Nite (Morning) Watching Party

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of any bars/restos hosting election nite viewing parties? I calculate the prime viewing hours being 0600-1200 Wednesday Pattaya time (1800-2400 EST).

Should make for interesting breakfast  time viewing ?

I picked up from another Forum post that Leo's Blues Cafe, Naklua soi 16, will be in election party mode that morning.

Why would you want to look.

Trump is the winner,

and Hillary will be in and out of court for the next 5 years.

Looking forward to watching both CNN and Fox when the results start being announced.

Expect Hannity to go into meltdown mode, with the usual shout-downs, if the Trump bandwagon comes off the rails. The whole campaign has descended into a circus, from both major parties, but has been a goldmine for all the connected interests - media / press / advertisers / talking heads / pollsters. But is has made for great viewing.

Should enemy sides mix like that?

Better provide good security and also probably counselors.

Anywhere will do as long as the sobbing Trumpeteers trudge out despondently, rather then get all angry and start throwing chairs and glasses around.

Hope there will be some big Trump Wins Parties on wednesday night.

Another inflammatory post has been trashed

I'm curious. How do you think the local Americans swing on the trump vs. Hillary question?

I think in Pattaya it's mostly pro trump but in Bangkok / Chiang Mai mostly pro Hillary.

Based on the demographics of most of the Americans here, just as back home.

Seriously, on such a volatile and emotional day, why would opposing sides want to mix? Does anyone seriously think there are such NON PARTISAN gatherings in the USA? I think not.

So is this really about a pro trump watching party?

It's exactly what it says it is...a query on any info on election watching parties or gatherings; of course, any public place with a TV and a proprietor willing to switch on one of the international news channels automatically qualifies but just wondering of any specific get togethers.

As to your specific concerns, I should think that expats, as a group, are adult and mature enough to watch the election returns in a mixed group in a sprit of oneness as Americans. I for one have no personal animus for supporters of either candidate though I may disagree with their political views. I would hope it's the same with others.

As to members keeping Rim busy with the "delete" button, this is purely a non-partisan request for information thread, there are many other news threads where you can score polital points for your candidate so please make such posts there.

I think you are right about Pattaya. I've only come across one Dem supporter and he is going to BKK to watch the results.

US networks traditionally do not report results from the east coast states until the polls have closed on the west coast, which translates to noon Wednesday. There will be lots of punditry earlier, but not official results.

Leo's Pub (Park Beach Condo, Soi Naklua 16) will have a an election day party starting at noon on Wedenesday.

Is this Leo's Pub the same one who had the Blues Pub on Soi 18 and do they have live music? Cheers

More off topic posts removed, lots of Trump and Hillary topics in World news for you to discuss them in depth

From my circle of friends and acquaintances, I totally agree with your take on the US expat voter demographic in Pattaya thus any formal gathering to watch the election results will all be a bit of a Tea Party. The Republicans will gather to watch in bars and public places whereas the Democrats will mostly watch at home in their condos or gated communities.

That is incorrect. They call east coast races as soon as the polls close in each east coast state if that state's results are definitive enough to call.

For key state North Carolina, for example, that could be as early as 7 P.M. east coast time and may be called by 8 P.M.

Yes.  When he closed the Blues Bar, he and Nang bought the pub in the lobby of Park Beach and have cranked it up with food several days a week (best wings this side of Buffalo), sports events on TV, and occasionally live music. Leo has a Facebook page where he keeps folks informed of goings-on.

Many who patronized the Blues Bar are now coming here.

It's nice having a neighborhood bar right in the building.

Well, unless they changed it in the past few years or so, they don't call the states until California closes, so as not to depress west coast voting.

You're confusing calling STATE contests with calling the national election.

That said, N.C. and Florida are likely to be close, so that means they won't be called early by the networks.

Pretty much everyone agrees know if trump loses Florida, he loses period.

There are now methods that will predict even earlier.

I am going to watch it on CNN and wait for the party to start when Hillary wins. Then I will switch over to FOX news and hear them cry .

You think Trump in the WH is better for Fox's bottom line than Clinton...you've got allot to learn how the world really works

Pretty good food and a good crowd.  Plus, you've got Leo!  His super bowl parties are great also.

I'll be happy when this disaster is over.

I heard that Florida is notoriously SLOW in providing results so that issue, rather than the media not calling east coast states when the winner is clear, may slow down things as far as being confident of the national winner.

Seems this thread is about an erection party, not for petty back and forth banter of shallow minded opinions fed by the mass media and lapped up like dogs by the lemmings.

Your powers of observation are uncanny.

OP, I hope you find your party, and it doesn't degenerate into civil war, LOL.

Up in Chiang Mai I've got the snacks in and I'll be watching it on Fox, BBC and whatever other channels have it on. Don't get CNN. Hopefully it won't take all night before the magic number of 270 is reached by one or the other. At the moment Trump is slightly ahead, but that is meaningless till Florida is called, and depending on who wins that it'll be worth continuing to watch or going to sleep.

Wherever you all are enjoy the show, and don't get too upset if your guy doesn't win.
