Rice fair organized by Market Organization for Farmers to help rice farmers

BANGKOK, 7 November 2016 (NNT) - The Market Organization for Farmers organizes a Thai rice fair to help rice farmers affected by the current price drop.

Rice farmers from all regions across the country sell their rice to consumers directly at the fair. Their products include many types of quality rice such as Thai jasmine rice, brown rice as well as brown rice powder and white rice cereal. “Khao Hom Yang Yuen”—a rice product which can be kept for two years—is available at the fair.

Director of the Market Organization for Farmers Kamonwit Kaewfaek said around 30 tons of rice were sold on the first day of the fair and all of the proceeds would go to the farmers. The event would last until 24 November but could be extended, the director said.

Mr. Kamonwit encouraged rice farmers to contact the organization’s head office in Chatuchak district if they wished to sell their rice at the fair. Similar events would be arranged in Songkhla, Nakhon Ratchasima, Phitsanulok, Khon Kaen, and Chiang Mai provinces, said the director.

Mr. Kamonwit also urged people to buy rice as gifts for the coming New Year to help Thai rice farmers.

Where is the fair?

Otoco / Chatuchak?

Otoco has inflated prices, like 4 times the price of a normal market. So it won't be there i guess.

You are right, OTOCO market is expensive but when I mean OTOCO, I mean "car park in front of the office of the Association of the Farmers" 30 meters from OTOCO.

By the way, the shop of the Royal Projects there offers good prices for excellent quality (radish, artichokes, peaches, passion fruits, rocket, yellow lemon, etc.) grown in Thailand.

Yup that shop is great if you don't mind the bad mannered old thai-chinese though. I go there often and wished BKK had more of those shops from the Royal Project. All the other ones don't have much fresh produce.

I also buy canned tomato's, carrot-chips, litchi-juice, cereal bars for MIL, avocado's, saladbar, white asparagus, loads of mushrooms, fresh vanillapods, herbplants, but the bread of them is also a week old. I even noticed pie-slices who can be kept  14 days!! unchilled!!!  Just check the sticker on those.

I use that carpark nextdoor to get away from the otoco, didn't know it was from the farmers association. They should open many more shops like the Royal Project Otoco or just make it one big supermarket with also meat for sale and a REAL fresh bakery with nice ham/cheese breadrolls.

Since a while the Royal Projects have a more aggressive marketing strategy : you can find the product elsewhere. Even in the small market close from my house, on SAT and SUN, someone sell products from the RP at the same price. Sometimes, problem of freshness but I bought radishes and they were still crunchy. Even in BIG C you can find some RP products but just a few, not fresh and price X 2.
