NRSA panel proposes pay increase for politicians

BANGKOK: -- THE National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) political reform committee plans to propose a guideline to reform rules for holding political office, which would include wage increases for Cabinet and House members.

 

The head of the NRSA’s political party reform subcommittee, Sompong Sakawee, said the new guideline would rely on the wage structures of executives in public organisations who receive Bt200,000 to Bt300,000 per month to determine the pay of the prime minister, other ministers, senators and MPs.

Officers should be rewarded appropriately, Sompong said, adding that they would be thoroughly screened following the enactment of the new charter and organic laws.

Presumably a similar increase to the one recently recommended for those enjoying the "minimum wage"?

So 250 army/senate appointees will be doing a little dance now. 

Who needs corruption, when you can give yourself a pay rise anytime you like.

By math that would be an increase of 50%/month for govt officials, and somewhere near 15% for the few who have requirements for the "minimum wage" hike (if I remember the numbers correctly that comparatively 200 000 -> 300 000 and 9 000->10 050) so not quite similar, but same same & different.

Where's the statement from officialdom that the increase will help stop corruption ?

Last time I heard it was supposed to be tiered from 300 -> 350 depending on education or sth - maybe I've missed another proposal then :D

Aaw, does this mean these ' poor ' people may have to resort to making money any way they can until they get paid what they're worth ?

If they were actually paid what they're worth they'd owe money to the nation.

When looking at compensation one should consider amount of income generated from "tips" as part of total wage package. Similar to waitresses in USA.... couldn't survive on just hourly wage.

You've got to be joking, surely. It is well beyond april 1st. Why when the politicians, who are in the majority paid military men, get pay increases, in fact get paid at all. In all truly so called democratic countries, Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA etc., it is forbidden for serving military personnal to be in poltics.

I would guess this pay raise would boost their wages past or on a par with their American counter parts. Make them take rice as a barter till the stockpile is whittled down. They could eye the Cambodian model where the dictator sorry leader there just got a 300% increase. Yes politics is a bloated system. Under the new electoral system they well you know who should have the electoral field almost to themselves and a nice pay packet to boot. Oh Joy!!!

When you've taken the country by force of arms it's difficult for serving military personal not to be involved in politics.
