Good Mechanic for 1980 Datsun car?

Trujillo

Recommended Posts

I've run the course with my usual guy and am looking for a new mechanic.

Two important things: 1) Do the job right the first time and 2) Finish in a timely manner.

Also the person must be familiar with old cars.

Ability to speak some English appreciated but not necessary.

Any ideas?

There's an old guy just off the 1006 who only seems to specialize in older cars.

So coming out of town on the 1006, approx 500 metres over the super highway on the right hand side  nearly opposite the SCB bank you will see a few fork life trucks on a corner outside a large car parts store, turn right down the turning and he is on the right about 100 metres down, unfortunately he doesn't speak any English.

J & N Autos on the Inner Ring Rd.

Traveling West to East past Global House approx 1 Kilometre - the frontage has several Classic Cars for sale.

Both the owner and his wife speak English.

Handles everything from Beach Buggies to Bentleys.

"Jimmy" is the proprietors name, spent some years in the USA. Maybe a little hard to spot but next door to Harley Dealer, friendly guy.

Call Jay or Fon. DELETED - PM FOR DETAILS They worked many years in America, speak good English and have rebuilt my 18 year old Mitsubishi. Did an excellent and took the time  to explain everything that would be done and showed me why.

P.S. I was a mechanic in my younger days and also worked a year for Goodyear.

I had a beautiful Datsun 280 C (Cedric) Wide and long, air con, plush interior, psuedo walnut dash. The best thing i liked about it was the blue lights on both wings that you could see.

I found out later, that the car was produced for the American market as a 2nd car for the wife,it had the American look about it.I think it was made to compete with the Volvo.

I believe it was a 1980 model.Ive only ever seen one in Patts.I have seen a few Crown Customs, but they were not in good condition.

By coincidence I happened to see one of those wafting down Bangkok's Soi Ruamrudee at the weekend.  I was just thinking what an unusual sight it was, as most of them in other markets had succumbed to rust years ago - but this one looked really nice.  And yes, it does have a US style about it.

Yeah I know this gy.. Involved with the classic car scene, restores and keeps running some nice old things.

Bit picky about what he works on tho, wasnt interested in servicing a VW golf. Think unless that datsun is some kind of retro coupe he might be sniffy about it.

Has to be a Z series, surely.

I passed on one at 240 restored about 8 years ago..

Regret not snagging that.. 600 plus these days..

Would happily buy any non totally rotten one for a resto mod.

I was going to get him to restore me a Mk1 or 2 Escort with a Duratec 3L V6 in it, but I realised sitting in traffic in a custom car might not be so much fun after all.

Well he works on my friends Nissan NV which is not too retro although you could probably call it a coupe !

Southernstar: The engine is an A-12, with the original carb.

Wiki: The A12 is a 1.2-liter (1,171 cc) engine with 73 mm bore, like the previous A10 engine, but the stroke is increased to 70 mm. With five main bearings on a forged steel crankshaft, the engine is extremely smooth and durable. The twin-barrel Hitachi carburettor was significantly improved with the addition of a power valve circuit. It produced 70 hp (51.45 kW) and 70 lb·ft. (94.9 Nm).
