Farming cooperatives to accept pledges of 2 million tonnes of paddy from farmers

BANGKOK: -- Seventy-three farming cooperatives in 13 provinces are expected to be able to accept pledges of two million tonnes of paddy from farmers worth about 23 billion baht, said agriculture inspector-general Prinya Pergsombat on Monday.

Australia expects to resettle hundreds of refugees elsewhere

Russian tourist dies after Bang Tao swim

PHUKET: -- A Russian tourist who went swimming at Bang Tao Beach yesterday evening was pronounced dead shortly after lifeguards pulled him from the sea.

PHUKET: -- Rescue workers from Srisoonthorn Municipality and Kusoldhram arrived to Soi Koh Kaew 24 off Thepkrassatri Rd after they were notified at 6pm that there was a woman inside a vehicle ready to give birth.

Foreign countries have better understanding on Thailand’s effort to bring lese majeste offenders back for trial

BANGKOK: -- Justice Minister Gen Phaiboon Khumchaya said today that foreign countries have now gained better understanding of Thailand's effort to curb lese majeste offences and to bring Thai offenders back for legal procedures in the country.

 

He said that recent meetings with several Thai diplomats stationed overseas had revealed that several countries have more understanding of the effort of the Thai government to bring Thai violators of Article 112 who are still at large or who are taking refuge overseas back for trial.

Duterte orders rifle deal scrapped

MANILA: -- The Philippine National Police was ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte to scrap its rifle deal with the United States days after the US State Department halted the deal due to concern over human rights violations in the Philippines, The Manila Times Online reported on Tuesday.
