Chinese tour operators explore Thai attractions

BANGKOK: -- SOME 105 tour operators and product managers from China visited Thailand recently to explore the diverse range of high-quality tourist attractions and services in different parts of the country.

 

The “Product Manager Business Trip” between October 29 and last Friday was organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in cooperation with partner airlines to help the Chinese tour operators update their offers to their guests and clients. The trip covers products and services in Bangkok, Rayong, Pattaya and Samui.

Deputy Prime Minister Tanasak Patimapragorn said the familiarisation trip intended to help the Chinese tour operators realise that Thailand has a broad range of tourism products and services they can match with their customers’ needs and sell their tour packages profitably.

Meanwhile, groups of people inexplicably came over from countries outside of Thailand recently to enjoy a holiday here. Stroll on.

10,000 tourists a day trampling over these attractions, strewing trash all over the place, and driving their motor vehicles in the wrong direction should  change the designation of "high-quality" in no time at all. 

Thank the Lord they did not come to Chiang Mai!

Trying to drum up the declining Chinese tourists.

There was a related thread about the decline yesterday but I cannot find it today, strange.

It's unusual to see the the words high quality and Chinese tourists in the same sentence.

There are high quality Chinese tourists, but they don't come on zero cost tours nor travel in big buses.

 

Sadly, these are the main tourists we see here.  I saw quite a few on my recent trip to Eastern Europe.  Most were independent travelers, but did see a few tour groups.  Large tour groups of any nationality tend to ruin the ambiance of wherever they are.

Chinese tour operators explore Thai attractions. Rather like a trip to the local plastic store. Nothing over a 100 bahts.

In the absence of any other information from TVN it would be reason to presume that Madame TAT had the story pulled.

Were all the tour operators told that LoS won't really return to ' normal ' until next year or is all the cancelled entertainment of no interest to the Chinese anyway ?

It's the same in Western Europe: increasing numbers of independent Chinese tourists; middle aged or younger, impeccably behaved. People forget the patterns of tourism: 40 years ago it was the ugly American tour groups, then the kamikaze Japanese, later the Chinese. 

It is incumbent on the hosting country to put in place appropriate policies/regulations/support to see these markets thrive; in the early days Thailand saw a golden egg and did nothing but take. Hopefully they will adapt (if they don't, welcome Chinese in Burma, Vietnam etc)
