BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra will stage another round of pack rice sale at the Imperial World Samrong shopping mall on Friday in her effort to help farmers who are suffering from sharp price drop.

Writing on her Facebook page, she thanked supporters and some farmers of Phitsanuloke who came to her house to help pack rice of five kgs in each plastic bag. She said she would sell the pack rice at Imperial World Samrong shopping mall in Samut Prakan with farmers from Ubon Ratchathani, Amnart Charoen, Maha Sarakham, Roi-et and Surin provinces.

She added that the rice sale at 20 baht per kg was intended to give moral support to farmers.

By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra will stand outside a shopping mall in Samut Prakan today to sell rice directly to consumers.

The appearance will be the second time she sells rice bought from farmers in the Northeast. Last Saturday, Yingluck sold 10 tonnes of jasmine rice bought from farmers within an hour outside the Fashion Island shopping mall.

The former prime minister joined farmers and volunteers yesterday to pack a tonne of jasmine rice to sell today as part of her campaign to help farmers as the price of rice continues to drop dramatically.

"...Last Saturday, Yingluck sold 10 tonnes of jasmine rice bought from farmers within an hour..."

"...She added that the rice sale at 20 baht per kg was intended to give moral support to farmers..."

Just shows, whether it's a media stunt or not, when it comes to rice, she can still pack em in.

Not the kind of news Prayut was wanting to hear !!!

When asked to comment about her next pack rice sale, the normally outspoken "leader" seems to be surprisingly lost for words.

He will probably see the next sale as a political gathering and a threat to national security, the troops will be sent in and grandma will be arrested and the rice she purchased confiscated.

Yingluck is only doing this to upset the General.
Not to help the rice farmers, just to enrage the man.

Or

“To encourage and help farmers to sell the jasmine rice at Bt20 per kilogram, I would like to ask people in Samut Prakan and my fanpage followers to help to purchase the rice from farmers,” she wrote on her page yesterday.

There's only one person she's trying to help.

He might want so much to do what you suggest but I don't believe he's got the balls to risk it.

What's the point of selling a small amount of rice at high prices. Only reason people are buying is because it's sold by a celebrity.

Looks like a clear clear act of self promotion.

Didn't see her selling rubber when rubber farmers were struggling during her brother's tenure as PM.

Of course she is.. well played..

But she is certainly not helping the farmers with those amounts she buys.

Now if the PM gets creative and makes her pay her big fine and use that to buy rice.. now that would be poetic justice.

It is..she hopes it will get her re elected and then she can use he power to either cancel her big rice fine or find ways to get a similar amount or more back from the state the Thaksin way.

Regardless, of opinions. her gestures send a clear message that having direct contact with grassroots Thais is imperative to make the country, more fair and equitable.

She is showing that she is for the people.  Something the junta is having trouble with.

The government is really doing something with rice subsidies (included in the budget not off books). I am still against them as I feel pumping in money without change is stupid. So whoever does it is stupid not to make change to try to solve the problem long term.

What YL is doing is a photo op nothing more..what Prayut is doing has far more financial impact on the farmers.
