Can you get a non-o visa multiple  entry based on marriage at Vientiane in Laos? Or do I have to go to savannakhet.

I have copied my marriage certificate(both sides) but do I need to bring the original. (I hope not as this is at home)

  • You can't get a ME visa from Vientaine and would need to get it from Savannakhet.
  • You might get away with just a copy, especially if your wife is with you. If you get turned down you shouldn't have a problem getting a Tourist Visa and can go for the ME Non 'O' in a few months time.

I have just been to Savannakhet for my visa, you will need the original marriage Certificate, everyone I know who have been there have been asked for it, you also need a copy of your wife's ID signed by here and a copy of the housebook. They did not ask to see the original house book and accepted the copy but they did ask to see the original marriage certificate the one with the flowers around it.

What if original Thai marriage certificate is not available, however kr.22 form is obtained at Amphur prior to applying in Savannakhet? Original marriage certificate is from Hong Kong as we got married there.

My suggestion to call the Thai Consulate in Savannakhet, I have called them several time, there is now long wait time and the girl I talked to spoke good English.

the number is:

+85 641 212 373

You will probably get many suggestions but the only way you get definitive information is from the Consulate office in Savannakhet.

You don't have to give your name, just ask your question and you will get a response that you can bank on.

The worst thing you could do is to make the trek to Savannakhet and be told you don't have the proper documentation.

When you got to an Amphoe for the Kor Ror 2 (22 is for foreign marriages) you should have a certified copy of your marriage certificate done. They will accept a certified copy in lieu of the the original.

Being married in Hong Kong I assume is considered a foreign marriage, hence Kor Ror 22 have been issued. Besides I have a COPY of a certified translation of the HK marriage certificate, not sure what happened to the original one, perhaps it was kept when doing a previous extension of stay at immigration. Having said that these documents were previously accepted by immigration and hopefully will also by Thai consulate in Savannakhet. Thanks Ubonjoe for your help.

I expect most people go there with their original marriage certificate because that is the best practice, but as far as I know there is no set requirement to supply anything other than a copy. Reports of people being turned down for not having the original would be more relevant.

I would always recommend that applicants should take the original, but if I were the OP I would take the chance rather than go all the way home to get the original document, because at the very least they would be able to get a SETV, which could provide up to 4 months before having to go back to Savannakhet.

No you don't need to take your wife along.

Marriage certificate plus a copy, signed copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card.
