Ministry of Labor and Chamber of Foreign Commerce discuss foreign labor regulations

BANGKOK, 15 November 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Labor has met with the Chamber of Foreign Commerce in an effort to enhance the nation’s competitive edge.

The Ministry of Labor, working with the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Foreign Commerce, has invited experts on foreign trade to elaborate on labor laws and the employment of foreign laborers as well as on the E-Payment Social Security system, which has already signed on 40% of businesses.

The gathering also brought greater clarity to the adjustment to the nation’s minimum wage set to be introduced on January 1, 2017. The new regulation will see eight provinces maintain the current 300 baht per day rate with others to be allowed to raise their rates 5-10 baht depending on their individual economic markers.

The Chamber of Foreign Commerce meanwhile, took the opportunity to ask the Ministry of Labor to expedite the development of laborers qualified to work in high technology industries. The chamber noted employment in the Kingdom continues to be well balanced despite a contraction of the world economy.
