Online rice sales draw huge interest from farmers

 

 

BANGKOK: -- Online rice sales encouraged by the government to help farmers find new outlets for their crops is drawing huge interest from farmers with now more farmers are applying to join in the program.

 

The online rice sales is part of the government’s effort to help farmers fetch higher prices for their rice crops.

 

Ms Banjongjit Angsu-Singh, the director-general of the Department of Business Development, revealed that following the introduction of measures to allow farmers to sell rice online via the ThaiCommerceStore.com website, tremendous interest has been generated for the program.

 

The website contains 3 types of banners for rice products.

 

The first of which is for farmers who already have websites of their own allowing buyers to click links to these websites directly.

 

The second and third of which is to connect through the social media to farmer’s Facebook or Instagram accounts.

 

She said for farmers who have no websites or social media accounts of their own, the department will be providing advice and help for them by allowing enquiries to the department or via provincial commerce centers throughout the country.

 

She said the feedback for the program has been very good with more and more farmers showing interest in joining the program.

 

Offline buyers will be able to do so through the Thai Retail and Wholesale Trade Association which will provide selling space for farmers free of charge.
