Suspected members of a pickpocket gang caught on film robbing a Japanese tourist on Feb. 22 in Soi Sukhumvit 24.

BANGKOK — Three suspected members of a pickpocket gang which targeted foreigners were arrested Thursday night in the Lat Phrao district.

Kissada “Oat” Sawasdee, 33, Panthagarn “O” Watsola, 20, and Chakrapan “Yin” Ngamwong, 20, were wanted for mugging a Japanese tourist earlier this year. Chakrapan was apprehended in Soi Lat Phrao 71, while the other two turned themselves in.

From the linked article:

Kissada, Panthagarn, and Chakrapan said that they had been running the pickpocketing operation and committed hundreds of thefts, sometimes injuring victims, in the Thonglor, Thung Maha Mek, Wat Prayakrai, and Lat Phrao areas.

Why on earth do they confess to even more crimes?

A car battery attached to one's testicles has quite the effect of making one open up.

I think "Fagin and the Artful Dodger" would be offended by these snatch-bag thieves. Pickpocketing is an art form in itself whereby the thief manages to relieve the owner of his valuables without said owner's knowledge. These punks just rip bags and possessions from the victims.

Re volting!

I've had my mobile stolen twice whilst out on the beers. It's so easy to do just watch this.

Now here's a puzzler, they usually mention if it is a Vietnamese pickpocket gang/Chinese pickpocket gang/insert nationality of choice here.

Yet here they seem to have forgotten to do so.

How remiss of them...

And I expect the press here to do better and tire of their prejudicial approach to headline writing.

Some days it's all we have and after reading the story about the father beating his 5 year old step child even that is fading right now.

If it us like in the UK by confessing to all the crimes they are charged once. If they didn't they could face separate charges for each of the other crimes

Not such a bad idea to do this to some others who prefer crime to working

But I think up the voltage to 240

We want Crispy Nuts

They confess to more crimes because, like the Uk,its taken into consideration. Also it gets unsolved crimes off the books so the cops dont have pretend they are still looking. It also helps them, maybe cop for a more lenient sentence.Have you never heard the saying,'a face for the frame'?

Always keep your wallet in your trouser pocket tight against your skin. Your man bag or hand bag straped over your head not hanging off your shoulder. Another handy tip is to keep two wallets or purses. One real one and one with a couple of hundred baht and old credit cards that are expired or don't work. So if you get mugged you can give them this wallet rather than your real one.

Good that these creeps are off the street. My favourite karma story about bag snatchers happened in Melbourne: a punk on a motorbike snatched a bag from an old lady but must have been disappointed to discover that the designer bag only contained dog poo. I would have liked to see the look on his face upon that find.

And DON'T carry your passport around with you.  Good pickpockets are well-practiced and knowledgeable, and can get to your stuff almost no matter where on you it is using teamwork and distraction.

Muggers are a different story.  I hear the ones in Rio nowadays are pretty brazen.  Mostly young teenagers and thus sort of untouchable by police, but uncooperative victims get brutalized by them nonetheless.  'Happens in broad daylight.   'Hope that doesn't find its way to Thailand.

If you go to Europe, be aware of the hoards of pick pockets in Italy, Spain ,parts of France as well.

I hope to go  to Great Britain in the future  but it will be an icy day in Hell before I go back to Europe.

Geezer
