BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha, on Wednesday afternoon, led officials of the Government House to participate in the launch of physical exercising to get rid of the problem of inertia which is affecting many Thais and which is blamed for being the cause of non-communicable diseases.

At the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the prime minister instructed his cabinet ministers to order their respective officials to join an exercise session every Wednesday starting on November 30 from 3-4.30 pm in their respective office compounds.

The maiden physical exercise class started at 3.30 pm at the lawn in front of Thai Khu Fah building in the Government House with the prime minister leading the exercise.

If he saw some of the sizes of the coppers here, he would have them on the go too.

Another crucial mission for the all-purpose Swiss knife-like PM!  :)

Prayut "...instructed his cabinet ministers to order their respective officials to join an exercise session every Wednesday..."

Thailand, soon to be the hub of heart-attacks among civil servants.

Just imagine Prawit, out there on the Government House lawn doing star-jumps !!!

Bike lanes, beach chairs and now jazzercise can number among his few "accomplishments".  3:30pm that is about the time bureaucrats start to nod off anyway.

This was the song they used:

I've got the Power - Snap

The Thai military has had the Wednesday ‘exercise’ day for quite some time. The lower ranks tend to play takraw, the well heeled retire to the golf course (or their very private and personal health spas) and the vast number of those in the middle simply disappear. It’s basically another way to take an afternoon off work. Suspect the civil service will quickly follow suit.

Where was Prawit??

Ooooooch...he is such a trendsetter....:w00t:

PM leads civil servants to rehearse physical exercise before official start November 30

BANGKOK: -- Prior to the official start of the exercise every Wednesday on November 30 on a voluntary basis for all government officials, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday led civil servants at Government House to rehearse the physical exercises after the Cabinet decreed that every Wednesday of the week between 3.00-4.30 pm, all civil servants will be required to exercise.

At the rehearsal, Gen Prayut showed great enthusiasm and energy as he led the civil servants to perform exercise.

The prime minister was donned in black warmers and walked out to the front of the Thai Khu Fah building at Government House, and led  civil servants in their exercises. Also attending was the Minister for Tourism and Sport Minister Ms Korbkarn Wattanawarankun along with other senior civil servants at Government House.

The prime minister was seen throwing a Frisbee for a little while after which he went on stage to lead the congregation in warming-up.

After this he led the civil servants in various exercises for approximately 15 minutes after which he relinquished the stage to professional instructors.

Physical education Instructors from the Ministry of Education led the exercises and a team of nurses were also on hand to attend to any injuries.

Gen Prayut said to civil servants taking part that doing physical exercise was good for them.

He made clear that he was not forcing anyone but wanted to see everyone’s health improved.

He said anyone unable to attend or stuck with pressing duties can inform their superiors beforehand.

No names will be checked such as with military personnel but what was important was for the remainder to exercise regardless of the numbers, he said.

He also explained that Wednesday was chosen because it is in the middle of the weekday.

Some people will be tired and by doing exercises will be rejuvenated to perform their tasks for the remainder of the week, he said.

The instructor has been moved to ground level so the people cannot see his instructions, because the "Great Defender" has elbowed him aside and ascended onto the platform where the instructor should be.

The people are left to follow the Great Defender who doesn't really know what the movements are.

But who would want it any other way?

They get free health care, don't they, good job. Every year, in the UK, people who've been inactive all winter start dropping dead at the beginning of the gardening season (source - a mortician I once knew).

I was wondering where all the soi dogs have gone.....:coffee1:

Reminded me of Jimmy Saville in that tracksuit

Guessing this young lady will get high marks.  She is perhaps the inspiration behind the whole program.

Maybe he also thought of giving cooking lessons on TV, but, er....;)

I hope they are not forced to hop around to his musical outpourings, that would make it a lame event.

as long as we dont have to join in to get our long term visas i am ok with it all. standing up at the start of movies is more than enough for me.

Thankfully no photo of him in his lycra.

I can think of many cynical things to say, but let's make this Positive Thursday. For myself at least... LOL A good start, let's see how it gets on, and for how long. Keep it going and prove it's not another flash-in-pan and people will take serious notice. One note though... one day of exercise will not rejuvenate one for the rest of the week. To achieve 'rejuvenation' and even the slightest hint of improvement in fitness, a bare minimum of at least three days of exercise per week is required. No short cuts, no fast-tracks. But, like I said, it's a good start, let's hope they keep at it.

Pretty good idea, promoting physical fitness.

They should have an ambulance nearby

"Wednesday starting on November 30 from 3-4.30 pm "

Best time of the day to do sport!!!, maybe they should even have done it at noon to be sure the people will sweat and enjoy the full sun

Mid-Twentieth Century stuff.

This mans powers know no bounds , well apart from something simple like running a country

Does this mean that all Immigration Offices will close between 3:00 & 4:30 p.m on Wednesdays from next week? What with all the public and government holidays plus 90 minutes exercise time per week, seems like even less will get done in future!

Prep the medics and have ambulances on standby.  This is going to be a shock to the system :partytime2:
