Hi

I am travelling to Thailand in January via Belgium. Does anyone one know if I can obtain a visa from the Thai Embassy in Brussels, Belgium to cover my stay of just over 6weeks.

Alternatively, is there anywhere I can fly to direct from Chiang Mai where I wont need to take medication for malaria and get a second passport stamp to allow me to stay for another 30days.

Thanks

Yes, you can apply for a tourist visa at the consular section of the Thai embassy in Brussels. How good is your French, Flemish or Thai?

Do you know that in your home country, you can apply for the visa by mail? Advantage: the application form is in your own language.

Thank you for the reply getting a visa in Brussels sounds best option for me.

I can get by in French though my travelling companion who also needs a visa is bilingual so can act as translator so I imagine we should be okay.

I don't like to be parted from my passport whilst it is in the post just in case I need to go abroad at short notice.

I have decided to go to Brussels as it is cheaper to stay there than in London :o

I agree with you, in the past i have done a lot of traveling in a small amount of time, I never let my passport out of my site, never never

In theory if you past port was lost while in Brussels, you could be trapped there trying to get a replacement.

Do let us know how you get on. I found the Brussels Embassy singularly unhelpful on visas (I'm a Brit) but at least they did speak English.

This was back in 2004 though, hopefully things may have changed.

From Chiang Mai, take the bus to Chiang Rai and do a border hop to Burma, to get an extra 30 days.

No need to stay overnight or worry about the mozzies. :o

Off to Belgium to try out the Embassy I will let you know how it goes. If it doesn't go I will do the border journey to Burma. Thanks

Just returned from Brussels with my Thai visa. I dropped my passport and form on Thursday morning and picked it up Monday morning. I had to give them a whole working day to process it. I had a good walk around Brussels too. The staff were extremely pleasant and it was really easy to do when I compare it to getting a visa for India in Birmingham.

Thank you for your help :o

Thanks really good news :o I actually needed two photos (I was a bit concerned at one point as I thought they were going to put the terrible photo in my passport but they didn't), the form, and 30 euros. I have just looked in my passport and it single tourist visa that should give me up to 60 days I believe.

Plenty of time to learn much more massage and see some of Thailand too.
