Travel insurance to America for American Expats?

Featured Replies

Quick question that I'm sure others have encountered. I'm a American expat living in Thailand that's begrudgingly going back to the States for about a month on holiday with my Thai Wife and our child, and our dual nationality child. I don't have insurance in the US but I would like to take out temporary insurance that will cover both Americans and Foreigners visiting the US on the same plan. Any suggestions where I could buy online with a CC and have it sorted in a day or so, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Bupa travel plans will cover you, and you can do it all online. If you have Bupa health coverage here, you get a discount, 10% as I recall.

I've mentioned this in another thread, but last time I was home I used it after I got a pretty bad eye infection. Doc in Rapid City filled out the 'statement of treatment' form for me, I got the reimbursement within 10 days of getting home

BUPA will cover your wife and child but check carefully re yourself as many travel insurance policies will mot cover US citizens in the US even if livong abroad. I'm in that category and researched it at length, found just a few that will. IMG is one and can be bought online.

Sheryl,

FYI, I'm American, BUPA cover me and have paid out for treatment incurred in the US

This is BUPA thailand travel insurance?

Yes, it's the travel insurance. I have BUPA health coverage, but as we all know that specifically excludes treatment in the US, hence the need to buy separate travel insurance. As I said before though, having a Thai Bupa policy does get you a discount on the travel insurance
