Fishing Foes Not Forgotten: Prayuth revokes statute of limitations for illegal fishing infractions

BANGKOK: -- Prayuth Chan-ocha has done that thing he does best today: invoking Section 44 of the interim constitution. This time, he’s using his absolute power to remove the statute of limitations for those facing illegal fishing charges. The reason is because many of the accused have simply fled the country in hopes of waiting out the statute.

Yesterday, Prayuth issued Order 69/2016 to this end and it took effect immediately.

The documentation says that there are at least 2,600 open cases of infractions of the Royal Ordinance on Fisheries B.E. 2558 (2015) and lots of those defendants named in the cases never showed up to face their charges, reported Bangkok Post.

Wow! Can he also do the same for cop killers, fraudsters and corrupt civil servants? I mean why not? Simply, why not?

Am I being too unrealistic when comparing him to He-Man? He also had the power.

Art 44 comes with a statute of limitations - it disappears when the NCPO dissolves, ie., endorsed election of a new government.

Meanwhile Prayut should use Art 44 to immediately try in military court accused human trafficking kingpin Army Lt. Gen. Mansas (arrested by the Army in 2015) if he's serious about seeing justice served.

And many will remain in Thailand knowing they will never be charged and face prosecution.  They are just too wealthy.

I'm sure that it's just the skippers that faced most of the infringements...my guess would be that the wealthy fleet owners would have minor issues...could be wrong tho'!

Lots of moaners here this is a good thing. He should remove it for corruption too.

Sure it is not perfect but its a step in the right direction.
