So there have been many posts informing you of free libraries. You don't seem to be able to realize you are in error. It's no big deal. If you think it worth trying to make a pedantic point out of 5 baht for 365 days a year membership I suggest you have issues other than the topic of the thread. theguyfromanotherforum
Why do you care?I could actually care less.I wanted to know if Thailand has a free public library. Apparently, it does not. My curiosity has been satisfied.Have also been amused by the fact that many posters have no clue what a public library is.I think it's safe to conclude that there in no free public library in Thailand. As explained earlier to you, a public service does not have to be free. E.g. Public transport, public education, public parks, etc. in my very first world country of birth there is also a public library in every city, but they do require a membership, at a minimal cost. JusMe
Many years back, I'd occasionally drop in to the public library in Mae Sariang, not for the books, which I think were few in English, but for the comfort of a bit of a relax in air con. I do believe citizens of Mae Sariang could join and borrow books very easily from their public library. Long way from Bangkok, but still in Thailand, and a Thai public library. By the way Thailand is not ' a third world country'. It's a 'developing' country. If you lack so much respect for the country that you have chosen to live in maybe it's time to move on??? Thailand doesn't need negative, arrogant people that always assume their own country's superiority... Like the Thais do

I'm amused that you chose a subject to berate Thailand about and are having a difficult time admitting you chose the wrong topic. There are lots of ways to berate Thailand but Thais do have the opportunity to visit and borrow books from free many free libraries. So, old chap back to the drawing board for you and pick another subject in your quest to belittle Thailand and the Thai people. Good luck and all that. Sorry your are in error. Where is that beating a dead horse emoji when I need it? I think "theguy" would agree with you that for all intents and purposes a 5 baht annual fee is essentially free. I believe, however, his contention about being able to borrow and return the books at a later date is valid. I think that's a practice/concept that has yet to reach SEA. I think he was simply investigating out of curiosity as I once did in Cebu where I found a library but besides not being free, even with a paid membership there was no borrowing of books allowed.
