Shisha restaurant raided in Sukhumvit - no one is smoking but police have CCTV evidence

Police and soldiers raided the Dubai Restaurant in Sukhumvit soi 3 yesterday and found a quantity of 26 shisha pipes but no tobacco.

No one was smoking but cops say they have ample evidence from CCTV that prior to this occasion the smoking of shisha was going on.

Whether the smoking of shisha is illegal or not is a moot point. Shops have been fined on the basis that no excise has been paid on the tobacco used in the pipes.

The Dubai Restaurant thus faces a hefty fine of 500,000 baht and possible prison terms for staff up to five years.

Arrested was Rashid Mohammad, 28, who denied that he was the manager.

He said he was in charge of another establishment by the same name in Soi 11 and was just standing in for the regular manager who had gone up country.

Well That's a plus, we're all way better off and safer now.

Now how's about takeling all the black blokes on soi 5 who love whispering about all the nasty not to mention when you walk by.????

You know! the heroin meth dudes.

just tax it and let them go on killing themselves, some nasty shit in that, when i saw a breakdown of the stuff that goes in it.

Filthy habit, needs to be stopped

lucky they weren't e-Shishas - but then maybe so?

Why ?  Many like Shisha.  It is enjoyable and only harms those who smoke it.  Are you going to outlaw drinking, cigars and sex too ?   All can be construed as bad for you.

Wow, the police are sporting some pretty fancy paramilitary duds.  Glad they are spending their time wisely quashing something that is such a "serious" problem.  It was a lot of fun at night clubs.  Sadly, no more.

why dont they raid discos that allow rampant indoor cigarette smoking damagine the health of employees and patrons that dont smoke?

Or even tackle some crime problems.......

So cigarettes and alcohol sold in restaurants are safe to consume ?

Do restaurants and bars pay custom duties or suppliers / importers do?

As for smoking that "shit" whose problem is it the smokers or the government and those non-smokers?

Shit indeed!!!?

Oh,what about thoseother restaurants and Cafès serving shisha all over Thailand , why this PARTICULAR RESTAURANT ? Or no enough bakshish paid by the owners?????

I am sure if sex is taking pkace and "Certain DUTIES" PAID  there wouldn't be any raids but absolute protection?

Do you have shares in this restaurant ?

Many side by places runs so called Arabian night clubs with lid music upstairs 2 BD floor it 4 th floor on the same street and thus Dubai restaurant has three branches inecat soi 4 always serving Sisha after mid night . In my honest opinion there is no orobkem

in smoking Sisha if done one wants to to it's like ciggerate. They should rather ban it raid those Thai shall joints who dies drugs with it or sells drugs ,  mostly foreigners they try to abide by the law it's mostly locals don't ghfe a damn so instead of restricting all these let the agencies actually try to stop more harmful things like drugs and like one previous poster mentioned round up those who are selling drugs openly on the streets. Sisha is nothing comparing other criminal acts that takes place routinely and one more question why only arrest the manager the employer and why not the owners ? 51% owned by the Thai , right ? If this is how agencies will treat visitors be rest assured there won't be much visitors coming even the visa fee is free.  Tourists come here to rehab , or enjoy it's that simple . Sisha is harmful to Heath no doubt but do is ciggerate and alcahol , drugs , ban them too! If not then let Sisha go on. After all it's on indoor thing

Safe or not, at least they're not illegal, that's the point..

What a joke. More rubbish policing. Go catch some Thai drug dealers there's at least 1 million.

On the market i see tobacco for 70 baht a kg, dried and cut tobacco ready to roll up. Is that also illegal?
