From Fiancee Visa To Spouse Visa In Aus

Featured Replies

Hi all

We are in Perth now and Pui has her fiancee visa, we will get married in the next few weeks.

My question is after the wedding when we go into the local immigration office for the temp spouse visa, do we need to do all the same paperwork as we did in Bangkok for the Fiancee visa( app & sponsor forms, proof of relationship, police check, medicals, letters from relatives, bank and tax statements) or do they have all that stuff from the Bangkok office(wishfull thinking?) and we just need the application forms.

Any help especialy from anyone who went through the Fiancee- spouse process.

thanks

Spike & Pui

Spike,

The process is exactly the same as when you applied for your fiance visa.

The only difference is that they will be looking at your current situation. That is, what have you both done together since the granting of the fiance visa.

They will not have any of the papers retained in the Embassy, Bangkok. I hope that you kept copies.

Once your application is received by the Australian case officer, the case officer will make a decision as to whether there is any need to conduct an interview.

Good luck for the wedding. :o

We did keep copies but they kept the originals.

1. The application asks for the original of the Thai police check, we only have a copy so do we need to go back to Thailand to get another.

2. The medical results got sent to the embassy so we never had copies of those, dose she need to do those again.

My understanding is that the checks done previously should still be current...However a quick call to immigration should confirm or refute this....

Let us know the outcome

My best wishes too.. :o

Just spoke to a guy in Sydney who did his spouse from fiance visa in September....he didnt have to get new checks done...however he said that they can make a request for them.

I will go and chat to the guys at Immigration this week to confirm.

My understanding is that everything is at the discretion of your case officer.

In Perth, once you have completed your application, you need to phone the Immigration Office to make an appointment.

The case officer may require Pui to undergo an Australian police check and/or an Australian medical check.

There is no need to try and obtain the original copy of the police and medical checks that were carried out in Thailand however, you should use your covering letter to state the date that these were done and the results of same. (as far as you know)

As they were done fairly recently you may find that the case officer won't order further checks.

We just got back from the Perth Immigration office, they told us the medical and police checks are valid for 12 months and we only need a Perth Police check if Pui has been here for 12 months(you must add all previous tourist visa visits as well as this fiancee visa visit). So if we lodge in Jan we will have 3 months left on the old docs.

But the rest of the application is the same as the Fiancee app we did in Bangkok.

Thanks agian for the help
