Away from the heavily populated tourists areas, of Kuta etc.. i found the locals spoke more English than Thailand, and were as friendly, if not, more so -

Bali expats !!!
I'm the only one in my family without one. Never had a reason. All my children do besides the young one here, but I'm thinking she'll follow suit with her siblings, seeing they all have at least 2. In Thailand, it's always been noted that bar girls get them, and it's a way to judge, but without knowing the background of someone you can't judge them. In the US, anyone can have them in any position. -

And here's the elephant in the room. Thailand clearly has a two tiered "justice" system and this is a clear example of it. Everyone knows or should know that this was all part of a prearranged deal with the military elites in a bid to protect their own interests and the continuance of the status quo. -
