I need to change from retirement to marriage extension, because I intend to work again.

If I exit, with no re entry permit, my retirement visa will be cancelled.

If I came back on visa exempt stamp, can I convert to a non-O using TM87 and then later apply for marriage extension based on income.

This will save me time waiting for the income letter from the embassy before I fly out and back again.

Many thanks for any help.

You could do it but would only have 15 days to do the application it if you get a 30 day entry. Overland you would only get a 15 day entry unless from G7 country meaning you would have to apply for a 30 day extension. It also means two trips 15 day apart to get the visa/entry stamps.

When you apply for the non immigrant visa you will need to prove the 40k baht income plus all the supporting documents, pictures and etc needed to apply for the extension.

You may find it much easier to go out for a single entry non-o visa based upon marriage. If you went to Vientiane or Savannakhet you would not need to show financial proof. You would only need your marriage certificate plus a copy and signed copies of your wife's house book and ID card.

And beware, if intending to obtain a standard 30-day stamp upon your return to Thailand, you may be denied permission to board your return flight at check-in unless you can produce evidence of a confirmed flight booking out of Thailand within this period. In these circumstances it may be best for you to book a flight to Vientiane within the 30-day period and obtain a single-entry non-O there as suggested by ubonjoe (I don't believe that it is possible to fly direct to Savannakhet, but stand to be corrected).

Ubonjoe,

thanks for the advice. Looks like better to get a single entry marriage visa for 90 days.

I always worked or had retirement  visa so going to Savannakhet is all a mystery to me.

A few questions if I may;

How to get from Vientiane to Suvannakhet ?
How long does it take?
where do I get the visa application form ?
Tried to search in the forums but could not find the answers.

Many thanks for your help

cheers

Just fixed typo in my post it should of been Vientiane or Savannakhet.

You can get the single entry non-o visa in Vientiane.

You apply the morning of one day and pickup the next afternoon.

Form download for Vientiane is here. http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/upload/pdf/Visa Application Form_new_V_13_8_2558.pdf

Ubonjoe,

thanks for all your help.

Just noticed that Suvannakhet is on the border. Presumably I can drive to the border, as I will be in Isaan next week, and cross the bridge into Suvannakhet.

Will I get a visa on arrival for Lao for the border crossing>
Is the visa application form the same for Svannakhet as Vientiane?
Really most helpful indebted to you,

You will probably find it best to park and take the bus across the bridge.

Application form. Savannakhet 2501-01-31.PDF

You will get a Lao visa on arrival on entry.
