PHUKET: -- Police began patrols on horseback at Surin Beach today (Dec 9) in their latest efforts to keep tourists safe.

Region 8 Police Deputy Commander Lt Gen Chalit Thinthanee this morning said that the need to have mounted police patrolling Phuket beaches came after officials learned that officers patrolling beaches on foot or by patrol car could not cover all area, especially long beaches or places that were hard to get to.

“Surin Beach is the first area in Phuket to have police patrolling on a horseback,” he said.

“We will have mounted police to cover all beaches in the future. Foot patrols at times can be very difficult (sic) and take too long too when responding to an emergency, so we need a better alternative,” he added.

The double entendre survives. At least the horses won't feel anything, apart from embarrassment.

Silly buggers cannot even get that correct.

In the photo you can see 2 small ponies, not horses.

Not quite hi -ho silver and away is it.

More like kiddies rides on Blackpool beach :clap2:

Well the bicycles that were announced with great fanfare the other year are just rusting away- I hope thy don't tie the horses up and forget about them as well.

More fluff and no substance.

That is bloody hilarious.  Mounted patrol where a thai is taller than what they claim to be a horse.  it's a pony for God's sake.  Have the thai police even looked at mounted police around the world?  2 weeks ago tje police launched a campaign begging citizens to stop laughing at them and tarnishimg their image.  well this is so bloody histerical and the entire world is pissing itself at you and your tiny ponies

There will be a job for someone, following the horses about shoveling

up the shit off the beach,or maybe they will just leave it there for some

well meaning tourist to  clean it up.

Very small horse, more like a pony ...

Only seen pony size horses in thailand

Although they must have some full size horses here if the government allows horse racing

They do have horses in Thailand, I guess no many but they have some real one

This is a very good idea and will go along ways in helping to keep our tourist safe.

They do however need to get some real horses and lose the ponys.

If any of you have ever been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans you know the cops there keep law and order from horseback. We are talking thousands of really very drunk people. The cops there have these really big majestic beautiful horses. I have no idea where they get them.

A cop on a big mount like that commands alot of authority and respect.

Doesnt matter though, this will all be forgot in a few days, but if it had been done right, it was a good idea.

Safe from who exactly? Beach crime? I don't get it.

We need to find something for the BIB to do. How about helmet laws and speeding? Or...I don't know.

Ponies on the beach, perfect.
