Why You WOULDN'T Want Casinos In Pattaya

Featured Replies

I just read some advertorial trying to flog a real estate dead horse with a very nebulous Casino stick, and thought - do people who live in Pattaya or Jomtien really want casinos there? I certainly don't.

And the only way it would happen if members of the current "government' were trying to make some serious wedge out of their current position. But even then, I don't see this happening, especially not anytime soon....

Not to be awkward, but count me as "ambivalent". The Chinese would love casinos in Pattaya and what they want is probably more pertinent here than what members of this forum want. Personally, I like the casino experience in Vegas but much less so in Macau. Vegas is more leisurely, Macau more frenetic. Attendance is not compulsory so you can choose to take 'em or leave 'em. I imagine they would be highly regulated but whether as efficiently as in Singapore; for example; is open to debate (in this thread?). By the way, Sharecropper you don't say why you don't want them here. Explain yourself, man! ☺

1. Can Thais enter? If so, I fear ruination on a massive scale.

2. If they are illegal now, what will be promoted as having changed to make them suddenly a social good in Thai society?

3. I don't want more uncouth Chinese in Pattaya; I want less. Bussing them in to casinos will put us right back to the road-clogging zero dollar tours of recently. Nor do these extra chinese spread wealth around the city. They pay it to Chinese-owned businesses. Where's the upside for the average Thai here?

4. Thailand is already pretty dodgy when it comes to illegally laundering ill-scammed gains. Casinos would only facilitate that.

Er, that's all off the top of my head. I may come up with more later....

Been hearing this same conversation around the odd bar for a few weeks now & something that was discussed quite often & openly 8-10 years ago in the company that I kept then.

There is still a colossal amount of land still to be delevoped around Jomtiem & NaJomtiem not forgetting both Mimossa & Ambassador cover many many rai that could be redeveloped & that's all without considering the new road being built that will connect with 3 by Ocean Marina & the first major tower block being built on Bang Saray beach, did I forget to mention plans for an expansion at Utapao airport.... all that is just for starters.

Somebody somewhere has some long term plans for the eastern seaboard that does not include just zero-dollar or indian/arab male tour groups as it's main customer base in the future.

I'm not claiming any insight or inside knowledge, just stating what's in front of my eyes.

A fair amount of chitter chatter about people new on the scene being beholden to people who used to be an integral part of the scene; if you get my drift. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, suggestive digestive biscuit. The times they are a changing.

We want to keep our Pattaya shithole pure..No to Casinos...

I hope the do it as it would contribute to the anything goes culture and allow the girls one more incentive to continue earning

One small "upside" for Thais would be employment opportunities, I guess.

The money that will be made from the casinos is already being counted.

It's just a matter of time.

My only hope is that any Casinos built are put on the dark side,  we don't need any more traffic in central Pattaya

In many cities casinos seem to attracted prostitution, I really wouldn't want to see that happen in Pattaya.

Can't see that happening 5Star as the present military junta have things screwed down tight & frown on such illegalities
