Will mototaxis raise their rates as a result of the baht bus increase?

A baht bus for 2 people will soon be 40 baht. This is about half the cost of a short trip for 2 on a mototaxi. Before, it was about 4x the price.

I plan on using mototaxis more often now but I am just one person. For anyone around back then, did mototaxis raise their rates when the baht buses went from 5 baht to 10?

Are you suggesting that the motorbike taxis simply make up their fares instead of strictly adhering to the official rates mandated by the authorities, which are of course clearly displayed at all motorbike taxi stands as required by law?

Oh my Buddha, don't give 'em any ideas....?

I don't think they would need any ideas, one in Pattaya quoted me 100 Bt for a journey, I knew the price beforehand, when we got there I gave him 100 Bt,  he probably thought I was a tourist, then he said he wanted 150 Bt, I told him to get lost and stood right up to him, I knew that with him being a Thai, me being a big guy, and no other Thais around, he would not be capable of doing anything. I deliberately got him to drop me off a couple of sois from my hotel as I know what these guys are like. If I have to use one, I find out the price beforehand, and offer that price if he asks for more, which he usually does.

Yes they do, they don't bother about any law. I have been quoted 50 Bt in Bangkok when I knew the price was 10 Bt, as I had done that journey a few times before.

I don't use a motocytaxi very often, but when I do, I tell the driver where I want to go, when we get there I ask him how much and I pay him, usually with a little extra. Never had anyone ask for an unreasonable amount.

Some people can make a 007 drama out of the smallest things. I bet some people think the expression "kee neaow" means goodbye since they hear it so often as they are leaving.

So you are happy giving taxis and motorbike taxis whatever they ask for? That's one of the reasons so many of them try it on with others.

I gave up riding a motorcycle at the ripe old age of 17 under doctors orders as the NZ weather was too wet and constant drenching played hell with my health. There is no way anyone in  their right mind would even consider riding a motorbike taxi especially in Thai traffic. Plus they need to fight over the fare charged. You guys have gone Troppo!!!

As the so called rise in bhat bus prices was only started as a rather silly rumour on here and absolutely nothing else has been said by any official I guess the answer to your question is NO.

It was reported on Thaivisa news video report so a tad bit more than a rumor.

It was reported as unconfirmed as someone on here started the rumour.

5555 Reported on  Thai visa news video so it got to be true then a bit like saying the sun is a decent English news paper yer right.

I think people should be advised to confirm the fare before setting off. I am sure there are a few motocytaxi guys who will "try it on" and getting into an argument with them after the journey is unlikely to work out well.

I gave this post a likee just for the final sentence, which made me laugh (maybe I recognised myself).

I'm confused...

Are the prices going up?

Where is the evidence?

Could we be getting more false news?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

A friend who is a motorbike taxi driver says the rate for two passengers on one bike is double that of one. So better and safer to take two bikes.

Whatever the increase just as long as the horns are disconnected. Nothing worse than walking north along beach road and having a baht bus beep his horn at you expecting that will change your mind and make you ride in the opposite direction.
