Public Health officials nationwide will provide free medical check-ups on blood pressure and sugar levels on December the Ninth

The Ministry of Public Health has already mobilized 90,000 nurses across the country to provide free medical check-ups for the public on December 9th, during 9.00-12.00 hrs.

Medical Doctor Suphan Srithamma (สุพรรณ ศรีธรรมมา), Public Health Ministry Spokesman revealed that the service will concentrate on checking of blood pressure and sugar levels in blood for the elderly and people aged over 30 years, free of charge. The service will be provided at hospitals and public health centres across country as a tribute to His Majesty the King on the 60th Anniversary of His Accession to the Throne.

Activities on the day will also include promotion of physical exercises and nutritious food among those who are already healthy in order to prevent illnesses and prolong their healthiness. Doctor Suphan added that people in Bangkok can seek the service at the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Public Health while in the provinces, the service will be provided at all health stations under the Ministry. He expects the service will attract at least 5,000 persons in each province. buildings.

According to Doctor Suphan, health evaluation shows people's sickness which is caused by their habitual lifestyles has led to chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood-pressure due to overweight. People having such illnesses have outnumbered the sick whose illnesses are rooted from diseases.

It is estimated that at present more than 13 million people have diabetes and high blood-pressure. About 70% of the number, or 9 million persons, have hidden sickness or no sign of symtoms. Early treatment would help prevent loss of life and minimise cost of nursing.
