DLPW warns potential fire hazard in at workplaces in winter

 

 

BANGKOK, 12 December 2016 (NNT) – The Department of Labour Protection and Walfare (DLPW) is concerned of the health of employers and employees due to the onset of the winter season, urging extra safety precautions at workplaces to the prevention of the potential fire hazards. 

The DLPW Deputy Director-General Suwittaya Chantawong has revealed the dry and windy weather conditions of winter poses a higher fire hazard compared to other seasons, including fire in buildings or open fields which may cause widespread damage. 

He has said workplaces are asked to encourage employees to engage in healthy activities during the winter, such as exercise and the wearing of warm clothes. Fire inspection is encouraged at risk areas, while the storage of flammable materials and heat sources should be done with extra precaution. 

Workplaces are also instructed to have firefighting equipment available in a ready to use condition. 

The DLPW deputy director-general has said fire accidents cause the loss of properties at workplaces and are a danger to employees, thus both employers and employees must join hands to prevent fire accidents among internal staff as well as contractors and customers.
