DLT orders traveler safety centers set up across nation

BANGKOK, 13 December 2016 (NNT) – The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has ordered its provincial offices to set up commuter safety centers that can be contacted at 1584 and to protect travelers from opportunistic service providers during the New Years.

DLT Director-General Sanit Phromwong has revealed his office has ordered all of its provincial branches to prepare to facilitate holiday travelers, especially between December 29 of this year and January 4 of next year.

The offices are to set up safety centers that can be contacted via the 1584 hotline. In Bangkok, the centers will be established at all 3 of the main transport terminals. Travelers are urged to report any irregularities as well as service providers hiking up their prices unfairly.

Transport providers who violate Section 159 of the Land Transport Act, which regulates pricing and fares, will be fined no more than 10,000 baht. Violators will also be recorded with future punishments to include revocation of their business license.

Sure they'll answer the phones...in Thai. When they talk about travelers and tourists they refer to domestic tourism. They have no clue about international tourism apart from the sex trade.

Wow! DLT.

He's come a long way since TOTP.

Because this initiative only applies to the New Year holiday period only it has obviously been designed for Thai tourists for their rostered holidays rather than international tourists who are in Thailand all year round. Says it all about Thai tourism hypocricy and insincerity and the lack of concern for foreign tourists.

Yes they will probably answer the phones but most likely only speak Thai. Foreigners encountering problems need not bother ringing. The Commuter Safety Centres are only there for the benefit of Thai people during the Thai civil servants holiday period. The rest of you tourists can get stuffed.

I can just envision a long line of tables where the employees sit around and drink coffee / tea, read newspapers, and chit chat, somewhat like what we see by the side of the road with the BIB every big holiday

Of course never answering the phone since that would interfere with the socializing
