TRANG: -- A fourteen year old boy in the south of Thailand is being hailed as a hero after he helped save two girls who were drowning.

Nong Yang sprung into action with some older friends when they saw two girls in difficulty in the floods in downtown Trang yesterday.

His heroic actions were caught on video and shared across social media with 100,000 people viewing, reprts Kapook.

Nathaphon Rongthongkham or Nong Yang, 14, was out with some older friends watching people fishing with a net. Then the M2 (year 9) student noticed two girls in trouble near the temple of Wat Tha Jeen.

He dashed over and swam to help one of the girls and bring her to shore. Once he had completed his mission he comforted the victim with reassuring words before others took over.

Modest Nong Yang was given the title "Hero dek meuang Trang" (Child hero of Trang) by the online community who shared his story.

The south of Thailand has been hit by serious flooding over the last two weeks and PM Prayut Chan-o-cha is due in Songkhla today to visit.

You would think in a flood prone country that one of the first school priorities would be learn how to swim and save another persons life  .........Seems Not a priority once again in the land of Smiles:......:) :)  :)   :)

Thailand is a flood prone country and makes disasters every year with Global Warming contributing. There are products available to help prevent flooding for companies and private homes. This is what my company provides.

I can't believe none of you picked up on the absurdness of this report.

It says "TWO girls" were in trouble!

He rescued one!

What happened to the other girl, did she drown?

It never says!

And I chose not to watch the video but rely on the reporting!

Sure. Every time there is a positive story involving a Thai native there's sure to be at least one lemon sucker to come along and piss all over the celebration. A steady diet of bitter & cynical can kill you. Some people just can't help themselves though. Pity on them really.

smile. It's a beautiful day.

Good boy!

Actually helping, when others stood around, filming the thing with their @#$%^&@ smart-phones!

If you were to view the start of video you will count at least six people swam out to help...

Problem is TV has too many @#$%^&@ smart-phones! asses!!!

In that case, you will be surprised to find out, if you bother, to learn how many fishermen in northern Europe and North America who can not swim.

That aside,

Amazing to see there are actually members who are not particularly happy about the fact a 14 year old got more attention than his older friends.
