dinga
I'm aiming at doing an 8 day trek in New Guinea in September 2017 and need a comfortable pair of trekking boots. I bought a pair of Merrell's (at MBK) after looking around quite a few shops in Mega Bangna. That experience was that few makes/models were available making choices limited/non-existent. I been walking/climbing in the Merrell's for the past 8 weeks, but they are still not comfortable. My feet are a bit of a mess after walking for over 33 Km yesterday - problem might be that I have 'soft' feet. Anyhow it seems clear I need a more comfortable pair of trekking boots. Grateful for any/all suggestions about where I can go to buy them. Thanks!
daveAustin
Thoroughly recommend the Salomon X Ultra Mids if you can get them here. Very comfy from the get-go, lightweight, good soles for trekking and also goretex uppers. Sort of a cross between a trail shoe and a boot but without all the fuss and heaviness of traditional hiking boots. Pricey (probably more so here) but are tough and last. Third attempt. pluto_manibo
DECATHLON has some decent hiking gear and their top model leather hiking boots got me through the ABC trek in Nepal without any blisters.
WorriedNoodle
The best I found in the malls has been North Face and they don't last long, cost twice the price in US and made locally in SE Asia. Certainly comfortable whilst they do last tho.
