webfact
GH Bank rewards disciplined debtors BANGKOK, 23 December 2016 (NNT) – Government Housing Bank (GH Bank) has awarded disciplined low-income debtors as part of a New Year’s gift program, rewarding over 2,000 customers in Bangkok so far. The GH Bank “New Year’s 2017 Gift” program was designed to encourage disciplined debt repayment among low-income earners by rewarding 1,000 baht to customers with less than 1 million baht in all of their GH Bank accounts combined, no non-performing loans and 48 months of consecutive debt repayment with their most recent payment for December 2016. Up to 178,000 GH Bank clients fall into the parameters. Bank president Chatchai Sirilai said the institution believes its program will incentive disciplined debt repayment by showing that constant payment leads to privileges. He also voiced confidence that those receiving the 1,000 baht would put it to good use and likely help stimulate the year-end economy. He let on that in Bangkok alone the bank has already given out rewards to over 2,000 individuals. Eligible GH Bank customers can receive their rewards at any of the bank’s branches merely by producing an identification card between now and January 31 2017. -- nnt 2016-12-
ratcatcher
".....will incentive disciplined debt repayment by showing that constant payment leads to privileges. " And here I was, after all these years, believing that debt repayment was simply a matter of honour, commitment and principle.

Rather than a vague program of periodic government gifts, why not a sustainable program to wean Thais OFF debt?
