A woman who left her ATM card in a cash machine outside a bank found out she had been fleeced of 10,000 baht by the next customer at the machine.

The story was posted on Facebook on the page of @Ni Cha. Nicha is a friend of the victim and she spoke to Daily News Online reporters.

She said her friend only realized that she had left her card in the machine when she checked her balance on an online app on her phone. She rushed back to the bank and reported the incident. It all took place in a department store.

Another person had retrieved her card and handed it in.

She studied the CCTV footage and the two people who were using the ATM after her looked like foreigners. She reported the matter to Pathum Wan police.

Then she went back and carried out her own detective work because the police seedmed reluctant to do anything. She looked at more CCTV and saw that the couple who used the ATM went to eat in a well known restaurant near by.

The waitress remembered they were foreign and they paid by credit card.

She went back later to the police who she said would not press on and investigate the matter because the people who stole the money were foreigners.

The trail had now gone cold. The incident happened on December 12th and it was now eleven days later.

She studied the CCTV footage and the two people who were using the ATM after her looked like foreigners.

The waitress remembered they were foreign and they paid by credit card.

.........the people who stole the money were foreigners.

Is there no limit to how low foreigners will stoop!

"The card was handed in....

it was used by foreigners"

sounds like another xenophobic b#######t story

She says the BIB will not press on and investigate because the suspects are foreigners so nothing to do with it being too much trouble, no incentive etc. ?

Should be easy to trace them.....

If only those foreigners didn't eat well, this amateurish sleuth be still running around

blaming everyone else accept her neglect.....

So the only thing missing here is "how in the H____ did the get the PIN number?"

You only have three tries b4 a machine gobbles your card as I recall...

If she actually left the card in and left before the transaction  was over, then grin bear and shut it...

Only in Thailand does a ATM give out the money first and card second.in the uk you must take your card out, then the cash will be dispensed.not rocket science really.

That's what I was thinking. I can't remember exactly but if you ask for a balance check on the ATM then walk away from it leaving your card in does it not show on the screen'Any further transaction' wanted ?

In that case anyone behind you could withdraw the 10,000 and then walk away.

It may have been possible, when you take your withdrawn cash, the machine asks if you would like any more transactions and you press no and the card comes out, maybe if you left the  the ATM card in the machine, the next person would be able to use it ?

scam!

So, after these evil foreigners took 10k out of the machine, what did they do with the liars card so that it could be retrieved ?

On 'any further transactions' they could withdraw 10,000 then walk away leaving the card as they found it for someone else to hand in.

And theres the fast cash option, where you just press one button to get 10 000 Baht

Why not take it to another ATM and withdraw more ?

You have a long way to go to become a proper TV sleuth.

Woman who left ATM in machine had 10,000 baht stolen from her account

That's called tough titties. Man up, dear, and stop blaming foreigners on your stupidity.

Nah, to be one of those I would have to take everything on TV seriously.

If you earn 15,000 a month then it might feel like it.

Don't these machines have a camera that records who uses them? Surely it should be a simple matter for the police to look at that and find out who was next to use the machine.

Just shows the state of the Thailand Police force, when Joe Public's dectective skills are better than theirs and even when they are given the evidence they don't follow up on it. Really quite shocking!

Then again, I am not sure why I should be so shocked, as there are fines to be handed out to people not wearing helmets, etc.. Traffic offences, now that takes real detective skills! ?

Probably as many of them work as the traffic and street CCTV's work.

Thing is with that, after you are given the money, no more transactions are possible without re entering the pin.

Though I'm guessing in this case she hadn't taken any money out.
