I think a girl talk about me. Can somebody translate the next setence for me?

เศษแก้วยังบาดคม เศษอารมณ์ยังบาดใจ
เศษเหล็กยังขายได้ แต่เศษใจใครจะซื้อล่ะ

thank you in advance,

A Thai poem:

เศษแก้วมันบาดคม
เศษอารมณ์มันบาดใจ
เศษเหล็กยังขายได้
แล้วเศษใจใครจะเอา

Here's my take:

Shards of glass cut deeply

Slivers of emotion hurt our feelings

Shavings of iron can be sold for value

But who would want splinters of my heart?

Posted

I see this as a rejection; someone isn't putting there heart and soul into the relationship. only เศษณ์อารมณ์ indifference?
and who wants part of a heart? เศษณ์ใจ cold heart?
Maybe it could be a cry of anguish or read either way.

You are both probably right. It is about one heart I suppose, damaged by เศษอารมณ์ with the result เศษใจ . No need to make sense of เศษ, but I would be interested if anyone can.

I  still like the parallelism that "shards", "splinters", and "shavings", "fragments", and similar words provide which refer to small pieces. In fact, I  like "fragments of my  heart" the best.

Perhaps i'm translating it wrong but the ยัง in the original might lend it to:

Shards of glass still cut deeply,

Left over feelings can still hurt,

Scrap metal can still be sold,

But who would want just the remains of my heart?

Some parts are from a song by คัฑลียา มารศรี  isn't the writer suggesting she's too broken hearted to be wanted by anyone else?

เศษ usually suggests the unwanted parts of ie เศษอาหาร  leftover food  เศษแก้ว- broken pieces of glass/bottles but here we see they still all have a use except for the broken heart. She implies it can't cut, hurt anyone or have any value, she's too down to be of any value to anyone.

Self pity maybe but I like the imagery.

We are on the same wavelength bannork; and I thought that people wouldn't be interested!
I came upon เศษขยะ > หยากเยื่อ = เศษสิ่งของที่ทิ้งแล้ว .
The material meanings are easy but I like to try some imagery too.
I think that the left over feeling is the feeling that remains and produces a wounded heart.
As a "poet" I would say, 'The feeling that remains wounds my heart" and 'what remains of my heart' but only because there is one word เศษ which does both jobs in the abstract.

If it not for the culteral thing about not criticising directly I don't think that there is any grammatical reason why it cant be "Your lack of emotion and who wants you."
David's 'fragments' are another way of looking at it, there is no right or wrong way. I looked up 'swarf' and got เศษโลหะหรือไม้ so we can be sure that we can apply fragments, shards etc. to the material things.

I don't see it's  'The feeling that remains wounds my heart'  I suspect it's more like her heart is too torn to be of any use to another, ie unable to love another but imo this passage calls for Mole or another Thai fluent in English for a definitive explanation.

I am not trying to be a poet but I am trying to make the comparisons work.
A broken glass cuts,
A broken relationship wounds the heart,
What remains afer working metal can be sold,
What remains after a relationship dies nobody wants.

i think that this just wants one word to replace "relationship".

I like this verse

imo the first 2 lines are saying how something broken can still hurt us,still have potency- the broken glass is still sharp, it can cut, the feelings left for someone can still cause pain in our heart.

Then the writer turns to the use of what is left: scrap metal can be sold even after the object has been made, but in comparison which possible suitor will value the remains of a heart that's broken? A heart that cannot love.

broken glass can cut sharply

feelings left can still pain us,

metal though scrap still has value

but a broken heart is worthless.

So we all agree now.
I bet that we never forget the significance of เศษ น. ส่วนที่เหลือใข้การไม่ได้ตามวัตถุประสงต์, ส่วนที่เหลือซึ่งไม่ตองการ
Which is the reason I chose A glass, because it is an object which in pieces can not longer be used.

Another possibility, in light of the situation, she was saying you didn't love her enough.

...You are not offering her your whole heart... who (in their right mind) would "buy" only scraps of a heart.

Just my thought.

i am so impressed with the poetic & linguistic skills in this forum!  (Not being sarcastic.  You guys are truly impressive. )
