SANDRINGHAM: -- Queen Elizabeth has missed the Christmas church service near her Sandringham country residence in eastern England for the first time in decades – because of a heavy cold.

A palace spokesperson said: “The Queen continues to recover from a heavy cold and will stay indoors to assist with her recovery.

“Her Majesty will participate in the Royal Family Christmas celebrations during the day.”

The Queen, who is 90, recently announced that she will be scaling back some of her duties, passing them over to other members of the Royal Family.

She will step down as patron of more than 20 national organisations at the end of the year.

Prince William also missed the Sandringham service this time.

William and Kate, along with their children George and Charlotte, went to church in Berkshire – as they are spending Christmas with Kate’s family.

The Queen’s annual Christmas speech, which was recorded before she fell ill, was broadcast as usual on Christmas Day.

Not to worry Queenie the taxpayers will soon pony up over 400 million dollars to have your drafty old digs brought up to snuff. They will install energy saving light bulbs as well so that you do not have to go around at night turning off the lights. What an old dearie.

Dollars nah don't do them, that's what they use over the water, the one's that would love to have a Royal Family.
Mind you HRH Donald Trump, has a bit of a ring to it.

For someone to do what she does at the age is a tad unrealistic.

She should have been semi retired years ago. Let the younger royals take the strain a bit more.

Haha, who told you we'd love to have royals? We prefer our entertainers and athletes, thank you.

She's really starting to show her age now. I do hope she is allowed to "retire" and get the younger royals do the heavy lifting.

She wont retire, i.e. abdicate.

She has said many times that she took an oath at her coronation to serve her people for as long as she lived and she will not break that oath.

Abdication is also anathema to her; she blames her father's early death on her uncle's abdication which made her father king.

She has, though, gradually reduced her workload by passing many of her patronages onto younger members of her family; the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (who run Wimbledon) onto the Duchess of Cambridge and the Rugby Football Union onto Prince Harry, for example.
