BANGKOK, 28 December 2016 (NNT) – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has advised that New Year celebrants ensure the readiness of themselves and their vehicles before hitting the road.

As the risk of road accidents usually peaks during the New Year season, DDPM Director-General Chatchai Promlert stressed that it is crucial for drivers to prepare themselves physically before getting behind the wheel.

He recommended taking enough sleep the night before, steering clear of alcoholic beverages and antidepressant drugs, having a companion when traveling a far distance and taking a break every two hours to prevent falling asleep.

Furthermore, the Director-General strongly encouraged all to examine the condition of their vehicles beforehand. Using navigation devices or applications and avoiding roads under repair are also recommended in a bid to bypass traffic congestion and lower the risk of accidents.

Makes sense to me. I would also do 10 or 20 push ups as well and visit the local Abbott for an amulet.

Says a lot when a Dept in any country, that has a title like the DDPM, usually only deal with sudden environmental catastrophes, such as tsunamis, earthquakes and dramatic volcanic eruptions , floods and droughts etc etc , but road accidents and careless driving, Oh whatever next????????????? I guess the answer is in their title DISASTER

Mini vans are a catastrophy

They are killers.  Read it here on tv a few days ago. They drive phuket roads with with no regard for life.

Every day i have several close calls with one of these really bad drivers.

Today one passed me doing 120 k in a 50 k construction site on bypass road and missed my handle bars by inches. Scared the crap out of me. Usually they just pull out on me or pass me close cut me off squeeze me out but this time it was my life i almost lost.he did it on purpose cause i was in the fast lane at a construction site preparing to u turn .

No amount of sleep will fix these guys. They are broken add a horrific road maintanance system and zero road enforcement and its seconds from disaster .

I want to see these guys get cracked down on.

I tried to get the guy to stop by flipping him the bird cause that usually works.it has always before.nothing like it. Flip a mini bus off and they stop dead in the road to flip me off and point there gun finger at me.

But this guy was in a big hurry just to stop a few hundred meters in front.

I was u turning by the time he was stoped. Tempted to go up to him but my girlfriend said he will shoot us dead not worth it.lets go and live to flip the bird again in the morning.

Every year they pull out the minister for "State the bleedin obvious department" maybe one year the police will do their jobs properly and police the roads, no, can't do that, it includes working.

Oh well, I'll stay in the Moo Baan and visit friends, have a few bevvies a bite to eat and stagger 2 doors back down to my comfy bed at some stupid O clock time and read about the carnage the following day, can't remember what my prediction on the death toll was, will check tomorrow.
