What can he do ?

My son arrived in Pattaya this morning from China where he teaches English. He is Canadian.  His return air ticket is in 2 months and he did not know he needed a tourist visa to stay more than 30 days. What are his options to stay in Thailand for 60 days. Thank-you in advance, any help here would be appreciated. Can he possibly just get a 30 extension at Jomtien immigration ?

Yes

Since August of 2014 a 30 day extension of a visa exempt entry can be obtained at immigration.

If he is staying at your house you should report his presence to Immigration (on a TM30 form) today or tomorrow. If you do not do this, he will not get his extension until you do and you will be fined for late reporting.

He is staying at a hotel just down the road from me. He is checked in for 2 months. Does he need to take anything from the hotel to immigration and when can he get the 30 day extention,,,,, does he have to wait till the 30 days are up ?

The hotel should of done the reporting to immigration.

He can apply during the last week of his 30 day entry.

Can someone confirm my math?

If he arrived today he has got a visa exempt stamp "ADMITTED UNTIL" 27 JAN 2017.

If he get the extension it will be valid until 25 FEB 2017.
