City council approves 15m baht for Bali Hai improvements

Pattaya’s City Council has approved a 15 million budget to make developments to Bali Hai Pier which will enable the Pattaya - Hua Hin ferry service to begin on time.

PATTAYA:--Pattaya’s city council has approved a 15 million budget to make repairs to Bali Hai Pier.

Facilities that exist on Bali Hai Pier are wearing out due to time and usage, specifically the bridge that holds great numbers of tourists on a daily basis. Koh Larn is a popular tourist destination for people who are visiting Pattaya and Bali Hai Pier is considered the main port, to and from Koh Larn. Therefore development/repairs are necessary, especially as Pattaya is chosen to host the International Fleet Show in 2017.

The city council approved the budget to upgrade the facilities. Ceilings were changed, improvements made to public areas and the area made to look attractive again.

However, the pier still needs further development and a Dec. 26 meeting was held to discuss an additional 15 million baht budget. Councilors and sectors involved approved in the end, and the budget is now allocated for further development.

This enabled Pattaya Marine Department Director Ekaraj Khantaro to confirm the test run for the Pattaya-Hua Hin Ferry will take place on New Year’s Day as scheduled, and the service will officially open on January 12.

Bali Hai Pier will be the main port for the project repairs are made. Three Catamaran Ferries from China will be used, each being able to seat up to 339 passengers. The ferry is 38 meters in length and can run up to 32 knots. The travelling time is estimated at 1 hour 40 minutes per trip, to or from Hua Hin. The ferries concerned are currently under inspection for safety standards before being launched.

So taxpayers are funding the tart-up a pier for private enterprise ferries to Hua Hin. The owners of that concession are obviously well used to sucking on the ample teat of public funds.

How much will they be paying to use the pier I wonder?

so the ferry started today, had to cancel due to weather, and NOW they are thinking about the docking facilities and public access?:shock1:

have they done a mass trauma exercise to practice recovering Chinese tourists who can't swim?:cheesy:

the first "test" trip to Hua Hin took three hours and had to dock in Khao Takiab, about 6 kilometers south due to large waves in Hua Hin.

Those wave things are weird. Who knows what the waves are going to do next?:cheesy:

The Khao Takiab dock is not far from my house. It is brand new but only has a very narrow Soi for access. Mostly a fishing boat port with a nice new breakwater. They really should use this port but it is a nightmare single lane road halfway back to Hua Hin. It was bumper to bumper today with New Year traffic.

This 1:40h for 113 km was a joke from the start.

I sometimes have problem to make that on the road.
